Desailly was born in Ghana but moved to France at a very tender age – where his footballing career began. He subsequently played for the French national team, winning the World Cup and the European Championship in 1998 and 2000 respectively.

However, he eventually missed out to Kwasi Appiah after calls from the public for the FA to appoint an indigenous coach.

Five years on, and Ghana is again without a coach after Avram Grant resigned from the job earlier in February.
