NCA must check social media calls- MTN boss

Ebenezer Twum Asante, CEO of MTN Ghana has charged the National Communications Authority to ban  calls made through social media which is depriving telecommunication companies of call revenues.

“If you compare that one to Sim Boxing, my position is OTT is more expensive. I think we must apply the same level of seriousness to OTT calls since it has a bigger revenue threats”, he said.

Turning his attention to the National Communications Authority, Mr. Asante said there’s  a need, not only to protect telcos operating in the country but also help in generating income for the state by prevent revenue loss in taxes payable by telecommunication  companies.

Pointing to some measures taken by some Middle East countries to stop OTT calls, Mr. Twum Asnate explained that all social media calls can be redirected through the traditional channels like it is done in those countries. “I think the regulator in our country can also do same.
