Former President John Mahama has successfully raised GHC420,000 to pay for his presidential form and filing fee.

The fund was raised 24 hours after the campaign team of the ex-president asked for donation towards Mahama's course.

"It's a wrap. Within 24hrs, MPs4JM have successfully raised 420k for JM from supporters and well wishers. This movement is unstoppable. He's coming back," NDC MP for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, posted on Facebook.

The NDC last week announced that the party's presidential primaries will be held on January 19, 2019.

The National Executive Committee (NEC), according to the party's General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, set the cost of the presidential form at GHC20,000 and the filing fee at GHC400,000.

The cost of the filing fee has sparked outrage among other aspirants who say amount is a deliberate move to scare the other aspirants from contesting.

Some of them also said the filing fee does not resonate with the party's social democracy principles.

And according to the veteran legislator and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, the amount is giving weight to the ‘create, loot and share’ allegation against the party.
