UN Secretary-General welcomes peaceful elections in Burkina Faso

Ban also called on all parties to resolve any dispute that might arise through established legal procedures.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, on Tuesday welcomed the peaceful conduct of the presidential and legislative elections in Burkina Faso on Sunday.

Ban congratulated the citizens for their enthusiastic participation which he said, showed their strong commitment to the democratic process.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in New York, the UN scribe commended the high participation of women in the electoral process.

He urged political leaders and national stakeholders to maintain the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed on Election Day.

Ban also called on all parties to resolve any dispute that might arise through established legal procedures.
