Asamoah Gyan explains why he was substituted against Uganda

Black Stars skipper says Avram Grant had told him he wasn’t going to last the entire 90 minutes ahead of the Uganda clash due to lack of match fitness.

Asamoah Gyan has revealed that Avram Grant pulled him out of the game against Uganda because he was not match fit.

The Al Ahli Dubai attacker, robbed a defender of the ball and was brought down in the process, before Andre Ayew, who stepped up for the kick sent Denis Onyango to the wrong direction to give Ghana 1-0 victory on Tuesday.

Gyan, 31 was replaced by Agyeman Badu in 70th minute to the surprise of most Ghanaians because the Black Stars skipper was a threat to the defence of the Cranes.

Asamoah Gyan after the game says Avram Grant substituted him due to lack of match fitness.

“Before the game coach Avram Grant told me that because of the recurring injury I suffered, prior to the AFCON, he wasn’t going to let  me play the full 90 minutes.

“It was well understood because I have not been consistent at club level because of the injury, so I was not match fit and I needed to be given some minutes to get to my very best,” he told Happy FM.
