Over the
weekend, my friend’s daughter was given English homework that took
the whole Independence weekend to solve. She struggled to work on
her own and then with the help of her mum and dad and then her
parents’ friends got involved. If we adults were stressed (despite having fun finding the answers), imagine
what this poor 10-year-old was going through.

Egbeyemi says the
purpose of homework is to reinforce what’s learnt in class.

“Homework should stem from what the child is taught in class. So the
child cannot be completely clueless about it”.

In expressing my
frustration while helping with the homework, I suggested my friend report this homework difficulty
and overload to the PTA.

Her response:  “The parents and teachers
will just tell me that perhaps my daughter is not in the right
class”.

So what happens if both parent and child don’t understand
the homework?

“Homework shouldn’t have to be this complicated
unless it’s a proper project,” Egbeyemi explained.

Can’t we just
Google the answers?

As much as Google seems to have the answer to
many of our questions today, it’s not recommended to be the first
solution to solving questions for a child’s homework. The purpose
of homework is not just to teach the child improve their memory and
thinking or learn to retain knowledge; homework also serves as a
means for parents and their kids to bond over what their children
are learning in school.

Importantly, homework offers ways for
children to learn about responsibility, prioritizing and dealing
with deadlines and pressure - key life skills.

One of the purpose of doing homework with your child or ward is to build a communication rapour between parent and child.

Following her performance with Sauti Sol, she gave a shout out to her mother.

<h1>Ycee has just signed an exclusive deal with Sony Music Entertainment today, Friday, October 21, 2016 in South Africa.</h1>

According to Sony Music, the deal will see the rapper’s first EP, “ The First Wave” released under the label.

Michael Ugwu, General Manager, Sony Music West Africa said: “I'm extremely proud to welcome Tinny Entertainment and the amazing talent that is Ycee to the Sony Music Entertainment West Africa family."

He said he had monitored Ycee’s growth over the year and he was the future of hip-hop in Africa.

"I've watched this team grow over the past few years and I am amazed at how they have navigated the industry to reach this stage.

"Ycee is the future of hip-hop in Africa and we will be front and centre of SME West Africa's strategy as we take Africa to the world," Ugwu said.

Ycee took to Instagram to share his excitment. He posted an image from the signing with the caption:

This new arrangement sees the ‘Omo Alhaji’ rapper joining the likes of Davido and Wizkid as part of the Sony Music.

Meanwhile Arokodare ‘Tinny’ Timilehin, CEO Tinny Entertainment, a Nigerian label the rapper is currently signed to said in a statement  it was a stamp of approval of all the work they had done over the years.

“We are very excited about the future for both Ycee and Tinny Entertainment", Tinny said.

Ycee whose real name is Oludemilade Martin Alejo first stepped into the music scene in 2012.

The rapper made his re-entry into the Nigerian music scene in 2015 and caused quite a stir with his singles including 'Condo',  'Jagaban' and 'Omo Alhaji'.

The start of 2016 saw him receiving the award for Rookie of The Year at the 2015 Headies.

The 'Omo Alhaji' crooner will release his new EP under the international label.

Rapper signs deal with Sony Music Entertainment

<h1>Banky W has revealed plans for new album releases from Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) artistes.</h1>

In an interview with Music site NotJustOk in New York, the record label boss share details of projects the label was working on when he was asked “what’s new for EME?”

“Everything, Niyola’s album, Shaydee’s album, DJ Xclusive’s All White Party, Banky W’s album, Banky W’s mixtape with DJ Xclusive”, Banky W said.

DJ Xclusive has since held his annual all white party. The event featuring performances from Skales, Cynthia Morgan and Ajebutter took place in Lagos on September 11, 2016.

The trailer features actor Imeh Bishop Umoh as the popular comic character <a href="" id="33547b2f-7bbf-533a-b63c-d568387e5547">Okon</a> and Alexx Ekubo as Bona.

The movie written and produced by Oguamanam follows the antics of two Nigerians who move abroad and deal with culture shock and settling into a new country.

“Okon and Bona have been selected for an exchange program in London. Will they return home after the program or will they attempt to make it big in London?”, the producer shared in the description section of the video on YouTube.

<h1>David Ohikhuare, son of award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer Stanlee Ohikhuare has released his first film titled “Dear John”.</h1>

The nine-year-old filmmaker is already making waves as he recently won the award for Best Movie by a Kid at the Realtime International Film Festival held in Lagos in September, 2016.

“Dear John” directed by the young Ohikhuare starts off with a young boy, Duval writing a letter to his friend and brother named John. The letter is read aloud as he puts his pen to paper and recounts the events that occur when he was a toddler and a scorpion snuck into his home.

The short film produced by his father features a cast made up of his family including the film director, his father, and his siblings: Daniel Ohikhuare, Stephanie Ohikhuare and Stacy Ohikhuare.

The movie has already been chosen for five other international film festivals, according to information shared on the senior Ohikhuare’s YouTube page.

Stanlee Aideloje Ohikhuare known as Stanlee Ohikhuare in the Nigerian film industry is a talented filmmaker, who is popular for his short films, thrillers and stunts. The award-winning cinematographer wears many hats; he is also a visual effects creator, video editor, 3D animator and a stunts director.

Stanlee Ohikhuare's son debuts first movie

<h1>The evolution of technology and the digital media era has brought about a new plot to the Nigerian film industry changing the way we tell stories, shoot movies and even distribute this material.</h1>

Filmmakers and film enthusiasts gathered at the the Lagos Startup today, September 26, 2016 week to discuss ‘The New Media Era and it's advantage for filmmakers’.

The panel was made up of cinematographer and actor Kunle Idowu aka Frank Donga, animator and founder of YouNeek Studios; Roye Okupe, Spinlet customer executive; Tosin Sorinola and Management consultant/writer Prince Ajibade. Nigeria is the biggest producer of films on the continent, serving out over 2,600 movies a year.

Director of “The Life of a Nigerian Couple”, Osunkojo spoke to Pulse about how digital media and technology have served production in this era.

“Filmmaking is more affordable, I can network with people on social media, the kind of people I want to work with, I can source my cast and crew from the Internet, from social media platforms and see what blogs have written about them", she said.

“You don’t necessarily have to have so much money to make a movie anymore, you just have to be creative.

“Right now every filmmaker should open their imagination to tell as much stories as they can because technology will allow them and social media will bring them in contact with people that need them, people that can sponsor them and people they need to work with.

Unlike the past where people watched content on Television, viewing centres and in the cinemas, now this content is available on desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones.

In June 2016, Africa Infotech Consulting (AIC) revealed that penetration of mobile phones remained on the upward swing with about 94 per cent penetration in Nigeria. Their research also showed that smartphone penetration has increased gaining about 30 per cent penetration with features phones having a 70 per cent penetration.

Thanks to the Internet, social media, YouTube and pay TV platforms such as Iroko TV, Ibaka TV and even Netflix, Nigerian content

Comedian Idowu spoke to Pulse Nigeria about how social media gave his brand more visibility.

“I’ve been doing this since I was in school cracking my friends up, it was just part of me, my alter ego, I can’t turn it off, I can’t help it, but social media created that window for bits and pieces of what I do to filter through to other parts of the world.

“Social media is a real deal breaker right now. For me, people wouldn’t have known my stuff, I started off on YouTube on a TV platform now I do Instagram, I do memes on Twitter. Social media has really helped me, it has opened doors of opportunity for my craft”.

Despite this advantages, the Nigerian motion picture industry still suffers from piracy, copyright issues, poor marketing strategies and poorly written scripts.

Osunkojo told Pulse Nigeria the challenge now is being creative.

“Because there is so much technology, we are forgetting the most important thing which is the acting and the story”.

Wizkid will be receiving a mind blowing advance in US dollars from his record breaking deal with Sony Music's subsidiary RCA Records, according to reports.

“According to sources, Wizkid will receive a 7 figure advance (in US Dollars) and sign to RCA Records who will handle his distribution deal in the United States”, music website NotJustOk reports.

It was revealed on September 13, 2016 Wizkid had signed a deal with Sony Music Entertainment and RCA Records.

A source close to Wizkid’s camp told Pulse Nigeria that plans were in motion to announce this deal spectacularly, with many outlets reporting that Sony Music is involved.

"There's something big coming up for Wizkid, and it happened while he was in America. The deal will be the biggest ever signed by an African, and signifies progress for the music business on the continent," the source said.

Meanwhile NotJustOk’s head of content Ovie O. took to Twitter on September 12, 2016 to reveal some insights about the deal.  He confirmed the rumoured bidding war between Universal Music and Sony Music for the star.

Wizkid's signing with Sony Music will see him joining the likes of Davido who signed a deal in the same label and Ayo Jay, who is signed to RCA records.

The singer whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, runs his own label imprint Star Boy has been making steady waves with his numerous collaborations with international artistes such as Drake, Swizz Beatz, Chris Brown and more.

The 'Ojuelegba' crooner has also been working on dropping an album "Sounds From The Other Side" a first under the Star Boy imprint, where he has signed Ghanaian acts - Mr Eazi, Efya and R2Bees.

Sony Music is yet to make an announcement of this new deal . Pulse is yet to receive a confirmation of this signing from Wizkid's team.

Now in an exclusive video, Tiwa Savage has opened up on the secrets behind her relationship and marriage with her former manager and husband.

Tee Billz had accused his wife of infidelity, neglect, and his mother-in-law of using witchcraft on him. He insinuated he was going to commit suicide in a series of posts on the social media platform and made it seem as though she pushed him and frustrated his life to an extent he could take it no more.

In her interview with ThisDay’s Azuka Ogujiuba, the Mavin Records singer had made revelations that discredit her husband’s accusations. She confessed she funded his expensive lifestyle, paid his debts and ignored his infidelity. The mother of one disclosed her husband was an alcoholic, a cocaine addict, in trouble with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and they were separated.

She said: “For the past two months, TJ and I have not been together, it was something we were working through, but I knew this marriage would not work”.

In the interview, Tiwa says “I have never cheated on my husband. Not with Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, 2face Idibia or anybody. I have never cheated on my husband, and Tunji knows this. He knows that in his heart”.

Meanwhile in her interview, she has now accused her husband of infidelity and being with another woman while she had a miscarriage in Jamaica.

His relationship with Tiwa’s mother

He posted: “Your mother wants to turn me to what she turned your DAD to? I will rather Die. Ask her to confess what's she's done to me!"

Tiwa said: “My mother is not like that (witchcraft), she is a sweet lady, and she’s very British, she doesn’t judge, she is not hung up like that.

“A lot of times, my mom would say ‘Tiwa you are the wife, be patient, don’t curse don’t shout, build the home.’ She has been nothing but a great support for me. I would love for him to tell me if there is something my mother has done”.

Tee Billz posted: “I have been fighting this spiritual battle since I was a kid my mother and father can testify”.

The singer revealed her husband used drugs. “I walked in on TJ taking cocaine in my house in 1004 (Victoria Island, Lagos). I didn’t even know he takes cocaine. I walked into the kitchen, and I saw him taking cocaine, so I screamed, and asked if that is cocaine. HE started screaming that ‘What am I doing down here, where is the cocaine?”

She said he borrowed 45 million Naira from some and lost it. “I just found out that EFCC was investigating a case against him, and my brother called me from London and confirmed it that TJ is in deep trouble”.

Tee Billz: “You never supported me for day one every move I made and every project I layer my hands one was going all bad”.

Now in her interview Tiwa Savage says she paid his debt when he didn’t pay the balance for a Rolex and Mercedes he bought. She reveals that she paid her hospital bills herself when she had baby Jamil.

He said: “Lord knows I tried. I have been mentally tortured by my the woman I gave everything to”.

“I'm not perfect but I'm far away from being the best husband. Because when I dint have you paid bills and you took my manhood away”.

From the interview, Tiwa accepts that her husband hustled hard for her but she works hard too. She accused him of abusing her “mentally”. “Everyday all I hear from TJ is that ‘I created you, I took you from nothing, look at you now”, she said.

He said: “Thank you to Ani Idibia and Anita my Neighbor that provides home cooked meal for me when I needed. That! Yes you became the bread winner when I decided I'm not in business with you again take everything I just want my wife”.

She said: “His cooking allegations is a lie. I am not going to say because of my career that I am not going to cook. I work long hours to put money in the house, I work to make sure that we have a roof over our house. I come back home really late, and when I make something for myself, I make some for TJ. I had to hire a cook to cook for me, him and the other people that live in the house”.

What we once assumed was a fairytale relationship now seems appears as a cycle of excessive jealousy and controlling behaviour. No one was aware of the unhealthy relationship between the celebrity couple until Tee Billz’s outburst on social media. Now with these revelations from Tiwa Savage, Tee Billz has to some explaining to do.

The mother of one disclosed her husband was an alcoholic, a cocaine addict, in trouble with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and they were separated.

This information was disclosed at a media event on Wednesday 9, March 2016 in Lagos. Award winning actress Funke Akindele was also revealed as the channels new ambassador.

Akindele will be going on a nationwide tour of iRoko World's customer service experience centres. The actor expressed her excitement at the partnership.

Films and TV series including "Jenifa's Diaries", "White Hunters", "Pleasure Boosters" and "Child of Mercy" will be airing on iRoko World this month.

Channel relaunches as iRoko World, Funke Akindele made ambassador

The actress’ self directed film “<a href="" id="89bc7f89-beb5-5907-bfa3-3163fe7c7621">Dry</a>” was named Best Overall Movie Africa at the prestigious ceremony in Lagos on Saturday, March 5.

In her acceptance speech Linus said the film was dedicated to women without voices and going through issues like underage marriages and VVF.
