In the opening sequence of the second episode of <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/g33265817/zac-efron-movies-ranked/" id="1743c33b-73e1-3ffa-abb5-54d58f747b81"> Zac Efron </a> 's new Netflix travel show Down to Earth, he's joined by fellow movie star Anna Kendrick for what can only be described as a life-changing experience, when they (along with Efron's travel companion, health guru <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a33265319/down-to-earth-netflix-darin-olien/" id="f2719351-4bf0-36bc-ada6-882dc81d02f1"> Darin Olien </a> ) meet the world's first water sommelier (and yes, that's a real thing).

Before Efron took the rest of the episode to France (where he puts a spotlight on the country's uniquely sustainable system of reusable water bottles and public water fountains), he stopped at a French restaurant called Petit Ermitage in Los Angeles, where he got a special presentation from water sommelier Martin Riese, who gave his entire party a lesson on water, and an accompanying taste test. The biggest takeaway? Stay away from "Purified" water.

"When it says purified water, or distilled water on the label, I would never touch that," he tells a confused Kendrick. "That means it's nothing other than actually boiled up tap water. I'm always saying 'When water's 'pure,' don't drink it.'"

He goes on to describe that water needs minerals, such as magnesium and potassiumthings that help your body function and make it healthier. And when you drink purified water that doesn't have those minerals, your body is still looking for them. So you're losing minerals from the rest of your body because the water you're ingesting doesn't have any. Complicated stuff, but makes a lot of sense.

"Okay, my mind is actually blown," Kendrick says, turning to see if Efron and Olien were as flabbergasted as she wasbut they say they already knew.

After a little more battering of the "purified water" racket ("the worst thing on planet earth"), Riese walks Efron, Olien, and Kendrick through different kinds of waters, and their corresponding TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) level. The trio tries a number of different waters, from different countries from and different compositions (some have "champagne"-like sparkling qualities). One water from Australia, with a TDS of 1,300, is described as "the olive oil of water," and a "thick water."

"It annoys me that this is so good," Kendrick says. "Because I don't know how to describe it, but it tastes so strong."

"Water has a flavor, for sure," Efron says. "It's a watery flavor."

The segment continues and the trio run through numerous different waters, including one that Riese eventually says isn't even for hydration, but for medicationit's mineral content is that high.

For as outrageous as it all sounds, it's really rather interesting and educational to learn so much about different waters in a show hosted by the guy who once starred in High School Musical and Neighbors. Everyone has seen and heard about mineral waters before, but how many people watching Down to Earth knew what it actually meant? A lot of people are making themselves healthier just by clicking play on Netflix and learning. And if you're stunned that a "water sommelier" exists, well, you are certainly not alone:

So, kids, we do have an important takeaway from all of this: if you think different waters taste different, well, you're probably right. And those different tastes are probably because different waters are having different impacts on your body. And when you see some fancier waters in whatever store you're picking up lunch, or groceries, or whatever, it might be a good idea to take a look at the label and remember what you learned from Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, and the first-ever water sommelier.

The sale, which will open for browsing on July 23, will have open bidding between July 31 and August 13. With The Last Dance airing this spring, Jordan's mythos (while always massive) has seemingly reached an all-time high, which makes this sale of some of his rarest and most recognizable sneakers perfectly-timed. Additionally, a portion of proceeds from the sale's top lots will be designated to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. "The pieces weve put together for this auction are truly unique, and will have deep resonance for Jordan fans, sneaker connoisseurs and pop culture collectors alike," said John McPherson, the co-founder and CEO of Stadium Goods, who are putting the sale on in coordination with Christie's.

The first lot includes 3 pairs of notable Jordan-worn sneakers. The firstand most expensiveare actually not technically even Air Jordans. Before the Air Jordan 1 was even released, Jordan wore the Nike Air Ships for at the beginning of his rookie year, during the preseason and early regular season. These were also custom madethe left shoe is a size 13.5, while the right is a 13. Christie's sourced the sneakers from New Jersey Nets equipment manager, and their extremely rare nature has led to them being the most expensive item of the bunchtheir estimated price is between $350,000 and $550,000.

Additional sneakers available for sale include the Air Jordan 7 "Olympic," which Jordan wore for Game 7 of the 1992 Olympics against Croatia, when he was playing with the team known as the "Dream Team," alongside Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, among many notable others. This sneaker was sourced by a receptionist form the Ambassador Hotel in Barcelona, where the USA team stayedthe sneaker, along with a Magic Johnson shirt (also included in the package) was gifted to the hotel upon their exit. These are estimated to go in the modest range of $50,000 to $70,000.

Anyone who really loved The Last Dance (or Chicago Bulls fans who really loved that final title) might be particularly excited about another pair that the Original Air auction has available, a practice-worn pair of Air Jordan 14 "Chicago" sneakers, which MJ wore during practice between games of the 1998 finals against the Utah Jazz (as seen in The Last Dance's exclusive practice footage). Those have an expected price of "only" $6,000-$8,000.

The vast majority of us, to be honest, will not be bidding on these items. But for any NBA fan, or fan of the culture surrounding the game (which has, of course, also now crossed into fashion and style), it's really cool to see the items from ground zero be available for whoever is willing to put the money up. Christie’s Is Auctioning Some of Michael Jordan’s Rarest Game-Worn Sneakers

It's a big time for NBC/Universal, which just launched a major new streaming platformPeacockwith a major new <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/g31115283/best-sci-fi-shows/" id="06502468-0f8e-3faf-a487-6f83695915c7"> sci-fi show </a> of it's own, Brave New World. Based on the 1932 Aldous Huxley <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/g32235820/best-sci-fi-books/" id="a966b64f-05fe-3b97-a17b-049bac13be21"> novel of the same name </a> , Brave New World tells the story of a future utopian society where monogamy, family, and privacy are all outlawed to make for a society that functions without issues. As the first episode shows, this also leads to some bizarre happenings: No one is allowed to have sexual relations with the same partner for an elongated time, and, well, orgies seem to be a pretty standard form of recreation.

But another way that people in New Londonthe man-made society that Brave New World depictsget through things is by continually popping a drug called "Soma." Soma might sound familiar because, well, Huxley's source material is nearly 100 years old and it's been referenced quite a bit. (There have also already been TV film adaptations in 1980 and 1998; at one point in the late 2000s, there was a plan for a theatrical feature film where Leonardo DiCaprio would star and Ridley Scott would direct, but those plans never materialized into a film).

But now that Peacock's Brave New World has made it into the worldthe first two episodes are streaming now for freeit's imperative to understand what Soma is, and how it fits into two different worlds: Brave New World's, and our own.

<h1> So what is Soma in Brave New World, anyway? </h1>

Even for people who haven't read Huxley's book, the show gives clear enough context to be able to piece together what, exactly, Soma is: a drug that numbs any sort of discomfort, from anxiety to stress to general uneasiness. And as we see throughout the early episodes of the show, Bernard Marx (Harry Lloyd) hands it out like candy, offering M&amp;M-like pills to adults and children alike from either a large display in his office, or a small dispenser that he carries around.

Soma is a key facet of life to the elites of New Londonthe utopian society presented in the seriesbut not everyone is on the same page when it comes to usage. While the mainstream culture generally has people taking it to ease any possible discomfortBernard's meeting in the first episode with Wilhelmina (Hannah John-Kamen) in the first episode essentially has "take a Soma" as the answer to every problemothers in society aren't as keen on it. In the opening sequence of the first episode, when scientist Lenina Crowne (Jessica Brown Findlay) is offered a Soma by Bernard, she declines the offer, insisting that "her levels are fine."

Meanwhile, there's another group of people in Brave New World who don't believe in any of the drug-induced, monogamy-free bliss of New Londonand this world calls them the savages. Among this group is John (played by Solo's Alden Ehrenreich) and his mother, Linda (Demi Moore). The savages reject the New London way of life, and that includes taking Soma to numb anything.

In episode 2, after a confrontation between Lenina (a Beta) and a young boy on a bus (an Alpha; New London classifies people, and their worth, by the alphabetical greek alphabet. The lowest class we hear of are "Epsilons") in Amusement Park-like "Savage Land," Bernard sees that people on the bus are unnerved and on edge. He takes matters into his own hands, at this point, distributing Soma to all who want it, walking up and down the bus' aisle.

The drug itself is described as a "hangoverless tranquilizer," or an opiate. And in many ways, Huxley's writing of Soma back in 1932 was predictive of the way many in society today rely on prescription drugs to function. In a <a href="https://lithub.com/aldous-huxley-foresaw-americas-pill-popping-addiction-with-eerie-accuracy/" id="d8049a05-143b-3f62-a12e-61b8737df976"> great piece on </a> <a href="https://lithub.com/aldous-huxley-foresaw-americas-pill-popping-addiction-with-eerie-accuracy/" id="d14f5fe5-4177-3489-a7f6-10824e8068bb"> LitHub </a> , the parallel is broken down exemplifying how predictive Huxley's text was. The piece references a quote from <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Tranquilizing-America-Pill-Popping-American/dp/0151910723" id="92b7d41a-464e-39fd-a0ed-7524975a270e"> The Tranquilizing of America </a> , Richard Hughes' 1979 nonfiction book looking at America's (even then) increasing reliance on prescription medication.

"[Pharmaceutical manufacturerer Hoffman-LaRoche] created the ideaand doctors bought it that you can have better living through chemistry," Hughes wrote. "They have created what Aldous Huxley envisioned in Brave New World. They have given us soma, and it is called Valium."

<h1> Why have I heard of Soma before? </h1>

Given that Huxley's Brave New World was published all the way back in 1932, you've probably heard references to Soma before in other pieces of popular culture. In 1993, Smashing Pumpkins released a song called "Soma" on their album Siamese Dream. This song featured subtle references to Huxley's Brave New World drug, and singer Billy Corganwho says the song is about an ex-girlfriendsaid in liner notes of a 2011 reissue of the album that it's directly about Huxley's drug.

"From the Aldous Huxley book Brave New World, it is the narcotic we need to get by all that we cannot stomach to see in others," he wrote. "Or ourselves. A lover betrays his other. He slips into the night."

You can see his veiled references in some of the song's lyrics:

Close your eyes and sleep Dont wait up for me Hush now, dont you speak To me

Wrapped my hurt in you And took my shelter in that pain The opiate of blame Is your broken heart, heart, your heart Soma

Less than a decade later, The Strokes titled a song "Soma" on their debut album Is This It. Their lyrical references are a bit less subtle than those of the Smashing Pumpkins, dialing directly into the references to the "Soma" drug that exists in Huxley's world.

As singer Julian Casablancas croons in the song's first verse:

Soma is what they would take when Hard times opened their eyes Saw pain in a new way High stakes for a few names Racing against sunbeams Losing against fig trees In your eyes

If anyone was a Strokes fan and had never dabbled with the Brave New World novel (or any of its previous film/television adaptations), the opening of that song probably makes a whole lot more sense now.

What to Know About Soma in 'Brave New World'

Soma in Brave New World Has Been Talked About Since 1932

<ul><li> The fifth episode of Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries does something no other episode in the series does: investigates a series of UFO sightings. </li><li> Titled "Berkshires UFO," it looks at several seemingly unconnected people who all claimed some form of encounter on the night of September 1, 1969. </li><li> Thom Reed, who was only 9 years old at the time, has opened up more about his storyand has official documentation confirming his experience. </li></ul>

While most of the episodes of Netflix's reboot of Unsolved Mysteries focus on terrible crimes like <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a33298852/xavier-dupont-de-ligonnes-now-house-terror-unsolved-mysteries/" id="b674a0b5-39f5-3434-ab06-03023016e54b"> murder </a> and <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a33216917/unsolved-mysteries-rey-rivera-theories/" id="8eca5471-adbb-323d-a24b-d0382a1f5a92"> unexplained, mysterious deaths </a> , one episode in the first batch of new episodes focuses on something a little less common: UFOs.

The show's fifth episode, titled "Berkshires UFO," looks at a number of people in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, who reported seeing or experiencing something having to do with an unidentified flying object on September 1, 1969. A few of the people featured in the episode detail experiences like abductions, or seeing an object resembling a giant flying saucer in the sky. But a man named Thom Reed claims to have had a much more subtle experience: he was in his car, blacked out, and when he woke back up something was wrong.

As he details in the episode, Reedwho was only 9 years old at the timewas on a drive back home from his family's restaurant, seated in the back seat of his family's station wagon. In the car with him was his mother (who he says was driving), his grandmother, and brother. To get home, the family took a shortcut over a local bridgeat which point they recall seeing a bright white light which then became a bright orange light. Reed's mother, Nancy (who was also interviewed in the Unsolved episode) recalled seeing an object flying in the sky that resembled a 100-yard-long turtle shell.

And after those brief glimpses, they say, they went unconscious, waking up a few hours later. When they awoke, it was like nothing had changedexcept seated in the driver's seat, now, was the Reed grandmother. They had switched spots, and the car's ignition was now off.

In a <a href="https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/2020/07/03/unsolved-mysteries-netflix-features-knox-county-man-thom-reed/5364491002/" id="21d9ec21-9c75-3f30-a3e1-e05937cf35e0"> recent interview with the </a> <a href="https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/2020/07/03/unsolved-mysteries-netflix-features-knox-county-man-thom-reed/5364491002/" id="27b40aa2-313b-370f-a86e-32fbe36890ff"> Knoxville News Sentinel </a> , Reed said that the encounter has been a talk of the town for years, and that he took a polygraph test 10 years ago to confirm that he's telling the truth (or at least believes he's telling the truth) about his encounter.

"I talk about this because I'm on this campaign to straighten out or to clear up the earlier tabloid or cartoon-like coverage, which is unfair," Reed told the paper. "It's not fair to those people who have gone out on a limb to support this."

Reed also says he has numerous documents that confirm the event happened, and was disappointed that this paperwork wasn't featured in Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries episode.

The letters that Reed have include a 2015 letter from Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker recognizing his family's "off-world incident" on September 1, 1969. He also has letters from the Great Barrington Historical Society planning an event around the incident, and another confirming the local radio station's broadcast of the event. Anyone can read these letters <a href="https://ufopark.org/" id="9c3fc02f-91d5-3870-a58c-b13e1df7259b"> on Reed's website </a> .

Radio station 1420 WBSM, based out of New Bedford, Massachusetts, <a href="https://wbsm.com/the-real-story-of-the-massachusetts-ufo-case-featured-on-unsolved-mysteries/" id="84d90747-8c22-3a92-a8eb-2b4a3e330012"> had Reed on its show called Spooky Southcoast back in 2018 </a> , when he said that the 1969 encounter was actually the third time that he and his brother had encountered the assumed spacecraft. The first, as he described, involved seeing a craft that they said looked like a turtle shell on the ground in 1966. He said that the pair saw the same craft again the following year in 1967.

It almost had panels of some sort. It was about 60 feet around, Reed said. We did not see any landing gear or windows. It looked completely sealed.

He told the show that the UFO of the 1969 encounter, though, was differentinstead resembling "an upside-down Hershey's kiss."

To film his segment on the show, Reed went back to the site of the incident. He described what that feeling was like to Knox News. "There is an odd undertone for me," he said. "I physically feel a change. I get uncomfortable. There's a uneasinessalmost an anxiety. Even 50 years later there's some undertone. Maybe it's emotional memory, but it's uncomfortable. I don't like it."

In years past, it would be easier to dismiss claims like Reed's as outlandish or unrealistic. But after <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/28/us/pentagon-ufo-videos.html" id="5087a561-993c-350f-ac63-5ecaa69f3739"> recent reporting </a> by the New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/14/us/politics/navy-ufo-reports.html" id="f4df01f8-f7a3-307c-a7a4-b973c7e3f19d"> on UFOs </a> (and claims from people such as <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/26/science/tom-delonge-ufo-research.html?action=click&amp;module=RelatedLinks&amp;pgtype=Article" id="a92c2f5a-4728-3bcf-ae17-8fc0be6e3b07"> former Blink-182 member Tom DeLonge </a> ), its a little harder to outwardly ignore such claims.

Reed's story has remained consistent for the last 51 years. There's a chance the rest of the world is just now catching up.

The show offered up six brand new cases for people to sink their teeth into, from <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a33216917/unsolved-mysteries-rey-rivera-theories/" id="9cf79ad1-0bc4-3805-a965-9bd145947fd0"> rooftop mysteries </a> , to UFO sightings, to <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a33264792/alonzo-brooks-unsolved-mysteries-reddit-theories/" id="f2a84d17-caea-3283-a681-74267ee215a0"> potentially racially-motivated murders </a> . True Crime fans who quickly gobbled up the first batch of episodes will be excited to know that while a second season of the show hasn't yet been officially ordered by Netflix yet, there is a 'Volume 2' of the first season that will be coming later this year. That's right: six more episodes, guaranteed.

And so if you're still burning through these six intense tales of crime and unresolved mystery, know that this won't be the end. If you've already zipped through, well, you might have to find something else to hold you over in the meantime (might we suggest <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a32980168/ill-be-gone-in-the-dark-title-explained/" id="0b857c52-dda7-3c01-aff3-23d754cb31b6"> I'll Be Gone In The Dark </a> on HBO?), but know that your wait will be satisfied: there is light at the other end of the tunnel (at least when it comes to the thirst for more Unsolved Mysteries).

Here's what we know about the show going forward:

<h1> Volume 2 of Unsolved Mysteries Season 1 is coming later this year. </h1>

The show hasn't officially been renewed for a Season 2 yetthat's because we're still in the midst of Season 1. No date has officially been given, but these first six episodes that have been released ("Volume 1") are only the first half of the season, while six more are already in production and will be released at <a href="https://decider.com/2020/07/02/unsolved-mysteries-netflix-volume-2-release-date/" id="6279ecb9-209d-32e8-a97d-34022a9fca69"> an undisclosed time later this year </a> . Netflix has done this with a number of their shows, most recently announcing <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a32051920/ozark-season-4-release-date-cast-spoilers/" id="80e57b58-9957-358c-a00d-a9e4e15b491d"> a split final season </a> for the mega-hit drama Ozark.

<h1> Volume 2 will continue to track both domestic and international cases. </h1>

In fact, two of the upcoming six episodes were filmed internationally, and follow cases that take place outside of the United States (the first season only followed one: "House of Terror," which was filmed in France and follows the de Ligonns family).

This was part of the big appeal for co-creator Terry Dunn Meurer in bringing the series to Netflix: the global audience that the platform comes along with. "We had meetings with networks along the way but nothing felt like the right fit," she said <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/06/26/unsolved-mysteries-revival-adds-a-new-twist/" id="3bd94fd6-c39b-3188-ad12-39df3fad446a"> in an interview with the </a> <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/06/26/unsolved-mysteries-revival-adds-a-new-twist/" id="c327d0c2-cdc3-3a7d-af9c-8507200cec8a"> New York Post </a> . "Netflix is the perfect placewe can produce international stories and can also reach out to a worldwide audience to try and solve mysteries in different countries."

Meurer added that right now their team is looking at stories in Brazil (presumably for Season 2, if Volume 2's episodes are all mostly completed).

<h1> An Unsolved Mysteries Season 2 would continue to go without a narrator. </h1>

One obvious difference between the numerous versions of past Unsolved Mysteries and the new Netflix reboot was the lack of a series narrator/host, with this new version instead opting to go with a more traditional documentary format. This was mainly attributed to not being able to replace <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a33263138/unsolved-mysteries-netflix-host/" id="66760efc-a2c8-3297-afe8-6a73b5fad4d8"> Robert Stack </a> ("We decided it was really tough to fill Robert Stacks shoes," Meurer told the Post. "He was an iconic host for so many years."), the host most commonly attributed with the original series, though others like Raymond Burr, <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a33278089/unsolved-mysteries-dennis-farina/" id="ab245b1a-4bbb-3846-aff4-faf354bbfd4d"> Dennis Farina </a> , and Virginia Madsen have also hosted through the years.

When the time comes to start producing a Season 2 thoughassuming they get the callMeurer and company have already decided that they won't turn back on the decision to go without a host and/or narrator. It sounds like they really like the more grounded balance that they've reached in this iteration of the show.

"We wanted this be in the documentary world, where the people whose mysteries these episodes involve are more present and more of the storytellers," Meurer said. "In addition to interviewing family members and law enforcement, we go on location to get more of a sense of each case. We dont try to come down on one point of view and try to create as balanced a story as we can."

<h1> A proper Season 2 for Unsolved Mysteries seems likely. </h1>

Considering Meurer and her team are already discussing research and planning for more episodes, it sounds like their end is more than interested in making new episodesthey're ready to do it. And considering Unsolved Mysteries has been the #1 viewed content on Netflix from basically the moment it debuted, it would be a pretty questionable choice for Netflix to opt against bringing it back for more.

But with those six more episodes in volume 2 still on the way, the streaming giant will have plenty of precious time to make that decision officially.

We're Already Getting More 'Unsolved Mysteries'

Season 2 of Unsolved Mysteries Seems Like a Sure Thing

Let's put it bluntly: The Old Guard is a lot of fun. For two hours, viewers get to watch an immortal Charlize Theron (playing Andy, who has been kicking ass for literally hundreds of years) lead a team of fellow immortals as they run from an evil pharmaceutical company (led by a villain played by Harry Melling, Harry Potter's Dudley Dursley). Just like with Mad Max: Fury Road, Atomic Blonde, and Hancock before it, Theron proves she can absolutely own an action movie. And also like those movies, The Old Guard has an ending that might get you thinking: "What Next?"

The Old Guard is based on a series of graphic novels written by Greg Rucka (who also wrote the movie's screenplay), so there's the idea that this could seemingly be an ongoing story. And that's what the end of the movie seems to suggest, should the movie be as big a hit as Netflix hopes it is. So at the end of the day, here's our major takeaway from what happened at the end of The Old Guard, and how it could affect the future of this potential new aciton franchise.

In one of the final scenes of the movie, a no-longer-immortal Andy (Theron) tells Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts) that as punishment for his (well-intended) betrayal, he'd have to separate from the rest of the team for 100 years, before reuniting in the same spot.

The film properly endsa title card that says The Old Guard appearsbut a post-credits scene of sorts picks up immediately after. Time jumps forward six months, and we find Booker, heavily drinking in a building in Paris. He drops his bottle, and as it shatters he hears movement in the next room. Booker enters with his gun drawn, and finds a woman in a red robe, sipping on a glass of water. "Booker," she says. "It's nice to finally meet you." And the credits begin to actually roll.

This woman is Quynh ( <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a32880003/da-5-bloods-hanoi-hannah-true-story/" id="c0ddccb5-9985-3854-a6c0-2b1946279125"> Veronica Van Ngo </a> )one of the original two immortals. Earlier in the film, it was clarified that she was the second oldest of all of them, and that she was a friend and inseparable with Andy. She entered the story because Nile (Kiki Layne) kept having dreams of a woman drowning over and over againand given that the immortals share dreams, they all knew exactly who she was seeing.

Quynh and Andy got captured around the time of the witch trials, and while Andy managed to escape, Quynh ended up getting thrown to the bottom of an unknown body of water, weighted down in a metal suit. Since she never truly dies, it's here that she drowned over, and over, and over again. Nile kept seeing her death, just as the movie showed her horrified screams from within the suit.

So when Booker sees her at the end, viewers who remember about an hour earlier in the film should know exactly who that is. And since the immortals all share the same dreams, that means she's seen his dreams as wellhence the "nice to finally meet you."

It's an obvious set-up for a sequelis Quynh mad? Is she happy? How did she escape? How long has she been escaped? It can't have been that long, we can say definitivelyat the longest it was the six months we've seen on screen, because we can fairly safely assume that when Nile dreamed of her drowning, it was still happening in real time.

In a possible future Old Guard 2, there's a lot of potential for what could be done with Quynh's character. While Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) seems to have turned to be fully on the side of the good guys by the end of the movie, that doesn't mean that someone else similar to Merrick could have a similar evil plan to exploit the members of the team. That person could have figured out where she is, freed her, and is now using her to gather the rest of the team back up.

There's also the possibility that she figured out a way to free herselfwho knows what someone with that sort of ability would be capable of with literal hundreds of free time.

<h1> What about the rest of the ending? </h1>

In the moments after they part ways with Booker and before we see the six-months-later scene, Andy, Nile, Joe, and Nicky meet up with Copley once again and see all of his research and findings taped to the wall.

As discussed earlier in the movieand as exemplified when Andy received medical aid from a strangersaving people creates a butterfly effect in a pay-it-forward way. Copley says that he's only gone back about 150 years (one note shows Andy saving someone in 1918), but there's a chain of people who are saved then saving others. When that person saved someone, and that person saves people, and the effect leaves an untraceable trail of good deeds and lives saved. "When you think about how old you are, the good you've done for humanity becomes exponential."

When they realize all the good that's been done, Nile makes a comment aloud to the room: "Maybe this is why, Andy," a reference to Andy's earlier suggestion that she just doesn't understand why she (and those around her) have been granted the ability to live forever. Now she can see her place in the world, and the difference that she's somewhat unknowingly had.

Impressed with the research Copley has done (and knowing his former status in the CIA, and seeing how he successfully managed to track and hang with the team for the entire film up to this point), Andy essentially tells him that he's now going to be their handler. He's going to keep them undetected and find things they can do to help. He's going to get back in their good graces after teaming with Merrick for the whole movie (he might get forgiven a little bit easily, but oh well). And he tells them that he'd be honored. And now we're ready for The Old Guard 2.

One of the more anger-inducing and deeply-upsetting episodes of Netflix's new iteration of <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a33263138/unsolved-mysteries-netflix-host/" id="307e0c09-35bc-3960-aa0f-ecfe9be21626"> Unsolved Mysteries </a> is "No Ride Home," which focuses on the 2004 death of a Black man named Alonzo Brooks, which many believe could have been a racially-motivated hate crime.

As the episode details, Brooks, who was from Gardner, Kansas, went out for a night of partying in a rural area (a town called La Cygne, about an hour drive away) with three of his friends, all of whom were white. At the party, there was typical party stuffdrinking, dancing, flirting. In the Unsolved episode, though, one of Brooks' friends says that he was getting flirty with a woman who was there. It was also said that racial slurs were uttered toward him and tension seemed to heighten.

Due to what the episode deems a misunderstanding, three of his friends left the party, leaving Brooks an hour away from home, alone. The next day, when he didn't return home, Brooks was declared missing, with his boots found along the side of the road.

When he was not discovered by authorities after nearly a month, the Brooks family was allowed to search the grounds of the house where the party in question was held. On the very first day of that search, Alonzo Brooks' body was found next to a creek, adjacent to the house where the party was held. His body <a href="https://www.republic-online.com/news/linn_county/it-s-a-true-mystery/article_eaf6773e-b9a9-11ea-a0a9-9756b55df726.html" id="0f02d341-f028-3d47-ada8-f396f4be0350"> didn't have any signs </a> of blunt force trauma, broken bones, or drowning. This raised further suspicion that not only was foul play involved, but, as Alonzo's brother suggests, his body could have been stored somewherepotentially a freezerfor a period of time.

In June 2020, the investigation into Brooks' death was reopened as a cold case, with a $100,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of anyone responsible.

Unsolved Mysteries co-creator Terry Dunn Meurer <a href="https://ew.com/tv/unsolved-mysteries-terry-dunn-meurer-rey-rivera-update/" id="e6168835-6bed-3142-a8d5-bbd0140522a8"> told </a> <a href="https://ew.com/tv/unsolved-mysteries-terry-dunn-meurer-rey-rivera-update/" id="90eb031f-9fdc-33a3-aff5-2183f2acff76"> Entertainment Weekly </a> his team had been following Alonzo's disappearance since 2017before even pitching the reboot of the show to Netflix. As it turns out, the episode's production may have been what caused the investigation to be reopened in 2020.

"We had been tracking that story for a while. The people who reopened the investigation said they really started looking at it again a year ago, when we were filming the episode in Kansas," Meurer said. "Seeing them offering that $100K reward was a very happy surprise to us. We had no idea they had reopened the investigation until a couple of weeks before the show premiered. I think the fact we were producing this episode shined a light on the case and helped them want to take a look at this case again. These are important cases, and we really hope that the exposure brings renewed interest and encourages viewers to come forward."

<h1> Reddit Evidence 1: Some Potential Suspects </h1>

One <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/UnsolvedMysteries/comments/hm2p45/ive_been_following_the_alonzo_brooks_case_for/" id="1832f9e8-90f0-317c-ab56-a2612cd3c9dc"> user named u/ariadne94 </a> claims to be a Kansas resident and has been following details of the Alonzo Brooks case for years. This poster mentions details from a Cold Case Kansas blog, and goes on to detail a few names of people who are connected with many of the details we saw on-screen. A few of those names include:

Pat and Jerry Boone - Two brothers whose names are commonly mentioned as persons of interest in the case.

Tiffany Boone - Supposedly the name of the woman who Alonzo's interaction within the episode was with; potentially the inciting incident.

Mandy Jenkins - A relative of either Pat or Jerry who supposedly drunkenly bragged about their involvement in the murder.

Now, this is all hearsay, obviously, but it's interesting to know that there's further speculation and more details about the case out there for people who are interested in looking in deeper. The user also mentions that the family is supposedly talking to a filmmaker who plans to make both a documentary and a podcast that will dive deeper into the case and some of the key suspects (including those mentioned above).

<h1> Reddit Evidence 2: What about the friends? </h1>

Another popular Reddit thread, , raises suspicion around Alonzo's three friends who accompanied him to the party and "accidentally" left him there. The original post brings up a number of points:

<ol><li> They talk about how they didn't ever really think about race. Bullshit, I have a lot of black friends and where these lived, they would be called all sorts of things for hanging out with a black guy. </li><li> These guys left Alonza [sic] at party they knew no one at besides each other. </li><li> 2004 wasn't exactly the height of cell phones. How did they communicate? Justin's "got lost" and then "got stuck" was convenient. He called to say he wasn't coming back and asked his friend Adam to take Alonzo home? </li><li> This is the middle of no where. Where was Justin planning on getting a pack of smokes from? He already said he didn't know the town and small towns... this was after 11:00pm. Where was he going to get smokes after 11:00pm in a small town that probably closed at 8:00pm? </li><li> If this town is small, and even if Justin had a cell phone, out in the middle of no where and he had reception? Maybe, that might be plausible, but even today I have shitty cell reception in places like this. </li></ol>

I completely blame Zo's friends for leaving him, but I think they had more to do with the murder than they are letting on. Each one had an alibi for where they were. Anyone else catch all of this phony acting during the episode. The police need to look at the sketchy white friends and start pressing them for answers since they have some pretty good holes in their story.

"I don't think the friends are to blame. They were idiots? Yes. But that doesn't mean they were guilty of what happened," writes u/Tourito, another commenter in the thread, as a response. "These were kids, lots of booze, party with lots of people, these things happen every day - people left out at a party by their friends hoping someone will give them a ride home. Everyone has done that at that age." The user continues to say something that's unsaid in the episode: the focus should be on more of the party guests. This user also rightly points out that the friends didn't have any sort of theory, or point anyone toward any particular person who might have been of interest. Another take comes in the comments from a user named u/Rossington1234:

I don't understand how they say earlier in the night he got in a scuffle with someone and racist terms where thrown around, the fatter friend said he got in between them and separated them to stop it escalating...and then like 30mins after that they all left him alone there. Makes you wonder if the Adam friend was genuinely intending to take him home but the guests at the party made him leave so Alonzo was left alone.

In other words, the user claims there may have been something more sinister at-play.

<h1> Reddit Evidence 3: How did Brooks die? </h1>

A user named <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/UnsolvedMysteries/comments/hkrlz7/alonzo_brooks_theory/" id="530338e6-1716-382b-ae7d-3841d75a2d61"> u/Goober-Smooch </a> was also floored by the episode, and wondered many of the same questions as everyone else. However, they also raised a few specific theories as to how Brooks died. The first idea suggested something we mentioned earlier: the fact that Brooks had no blunt force trauma, no signs of drowning, etc. This user suggests that not only might Alonzo have been stored in a freezer, but he could have been put there and frozen to death alive.

"Due to the condition of his remains, some people suggest we was kept in a meat locker until being dumped," they write. "As egregious a suggestion it might be, I don't think we can rule out that Alonzo was placed into a freezer alive, possibly very drunk or even unconscious, and left to die "cleanly" . The poster acknowledges that this might not check out scientifically, but it makes a decent theory for a Reddit post.

Another theory from the same posted brings up the idea that the house hosting the party was visited the next dayand was completely empty. As the user writes:

Did anybody pick up on the detail that the house they visited the day after was completely empty? Like it wasn't partied in? Nobody still passed out, nobody just waking up and cleaning. They had a kegger there the night before, and the place was completely spotless and empty?

<ol><li> Alonzos own friends took him to this empty house and murdered him. I mean why would one of the friends leave after 45 minutes of party when the DRIVE was over an hour? </li><li> A group of teenagers murdered Alonzo Brooks and informed their families of their mistake. Their families came and cleaned up their mess, going as far as to hide the body. Likely the child of somebody in law enforcement </li></ol>

We don't know what happened to Alonzo Brooks right now, but with the case reopened by the FBI, and what sounds like future documentaries and podcasts on the way, we're just as eager as anyone else to get to the bottomhopefullyof what really happened, and hope that whoever is responsible is brought to justice.

Reddit Has Theories Around Alonzo Brooks' Death

Warning: The following story contains details surrounding the fourth episode of Netflix's new reboot of Unsolved Mysteries, which focuses on the mysterious and potentially racially-motivated death of a man named Alonzo Brooks.

Alonzo Brooks' Unsolved Mysteries Death Has Reddit Users Theorizing Hard

<ul><li> The mysterious death of Rey Rivera, who was a financial writer and an aspiring screenwriter, is the subject of the first episode of Netflix's new Unsolved Mysteries. </li><li> Rivera's 2006 death was officially ruled a suicide. But his family has long doubted that official ruling, and continues to look for answers to this day. </li><li> Below, we take a look at a few theories of what could have happened to Rivera. </li></ul>

The first episode of Netflix's new reboot of Unsolved Mysteries, "Mystery on the Rooftop," looks at the mysterious death of a man named Rey Rivera. Rivera, 32 at the time of his death in 2006, was an aspiring screenwriter who had recently moved to the Baltimore area for a new job writing a financial newsletter for his friend, a publisher named Porter Stansberry.

As the episode details, Rivera was missing for 6 days before his body was found in a room of The Belvedere, a hotel and event space in Baltimore. There was a hole in the roof of the room he was found in, indicating that he had somehow come down from above, whether that means he jumped, was pushed, or something else. As with every case presented in the show, Rivera's death remains unsolved and a mystery. But here are a few theories of what could possibly have happened.

<h1> Rey Rivera Theory 1: Suicide </h1>

The Unsolved Mysteries episode makes it clear that the official ruling for Rivera's death is a suicide. However, a number of factors bring this ruling into question. The first? Allison, Rivera's wife, had a house guest staying at their residence, a colleague named Claudia. According to Claudia, the last time she heard Rivera, he answered a phone call and rushed out of the house in a hurried fashion. Additionally, while Rivera was seen with many significant injuries, the injuries to his shins were said not to be consistent with a fall.

Additionally, the episode laid out three possible spots within The Belvedere hotel where Rivera could have jumped from. One option was the top of the hotel, and another was from the top of the hotel's parking garage. It was pointed out, though, that these two were far fetched, as Rivera would have had to take a running start to even conceivably reach the spot where his body went through the lower building roof and was found. A third option was explained, a ledge on the 11th floor, but he would have had to go through the entire hotel and through someone's space, which was reported by no one.

Late in the episode, a note found from Rivera's home is analyzed with the idea that it could be a suicide note. But it doesn't read as such, instead reading as a sort of scattered manifesto where he talks about movies that were important to him, secret societies like the free masons, and a reference to a "great game." No one quite knew what to read from this, but his family has refused to acknowledge it as a suicide note.

Given that the evidence to suggest Rivera's death was a suicide has never really added up, another option would include foul playindicating that Rivera was murdered. In the episode, Rivera's brother speculates that someone with a lot of money and power may have lost money as a result of Rivera's financial advice, and had him killed and set up to look like a suicide.

The episode implicates that Stansberry, who was essentially a lifelong friend of Rivera's, could be involved. Just after Rivera's death, Stansberry lawyered up and put a gag order on every employee of his firm, making it illegal for any of them to speak about what happened. He also refused to be interviewed for the Unsolved Mysteries episode.

As <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/unsolved-mysteries-rey-rivera-note-letter-clues-game-netflix-1515283" id="7f8ee8a8-0191-36cb-a684-d9c18b036026"> Newsweek </a> reported, a Reddit theory has emerged since the Netflix series' debut last week that connects Rivera's death with <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a28496343/david-fincher-movies-list/" id="9e25662c-5131-34a2-a867-0fa2dffdde1b"> David Fincher </a> 's 1997 movie, The Game. The Game was one of the movies Rivera states that he admired in his bizarre letterthe same letter in which he also mentions a "great game." The movie also features a scene where a character jumps from a rooftop, landing through a lower glass rooftopalmost identical to the metal rooftop that Rivera appeared to have gone through in The Belvedere.

The user who , u/zumalightblue, first noted a few similarities between the real life case and the movie.

The whole movie is about this crazy game that a company arranges that makes you think you lose everything in order to let you appreciate life again.

Rey was an unsuccessful movie script writer and maybe he got involved in sth that tried to imitate The Game in some way.

The user also noticed in the episode that there were two glass windows next to the hole that Rivera is believed to have jumped or fallen throughand wonders if Rivera might have been aiming for these instead, and something went wrong.

"in the episode you can see two see-through roof windows next to the hole caused by Rey. Did he try to go through one of the windows like in The Game?"

25) Beetlejuice (1988) Beetlejuice has kind of a Silence of the Lambs Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter thing going on. I realized in a relatively recent watch of the movie that the titular Beetlejuice character actually isn't even in the movie all that much. But his scenes are so funny, and so damn memorable, that it's whats elevated this movie to classic status. Michael Keaton is that good. It helps, too, that Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, and Winona Ryder are three more legitimate movie stars to anchor the rest of the movie. Nonetheless, this movie has already proven a timeless classic for both creepy and comedy reasons. The 2016 remake wasn't half bad, and if it wasn't for COVID-19 we'd be getting ready for a new Ghostbusters movie with Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things and Paul Rudd. But nothing beats the classic. Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, and Dan Aykroyd are untouchable. Plus, Horror fans are rewarded with the familiar sight of Alien icon Sigourney Weaver. 27) Evolution (2001) Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman tried to recreate his sci-fi/horror comedy luck with 2001's Evolution, and....it totally worked! This movie never became a big hit or franchise like Ghostbusters did (though it did briefly inspire an animated series), but it's a super funny comedy adventure about weird aliens invading from outer space. The cast is great, and also very, very 2001: David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, Seann William Scott, and Orlando Jones. 29) Attack The Block (2011) This movie starring pre-Star Wars John Boyega is pure fun. Using his real English accent, Boyega leads a team that protects his London housing project from aliens that rain down from the skies above. In fact, J.J. Abrams once supposedly told Boyega (before casting him in The Force Awakens) "I loved you in 'Attack the Block,' I'm going to find you something." 30) Horns (2013) Horns isn't necessarily going to make you laugh aloud a whole lot, but this story of a nice guy who one day woke up with inexplicable demonic horns on his forehead is fun and shows a good bit of horror along with its nice tone.
