From comparing 43 blond Islanders and 42 brown Islanders, he found that the blondes carried two copies of a mutant gene which is present in 26% of the island's population. The Melanesian people have a native TYRP1 gene which is partly responsible for the blond hair and melanin, and is totally distinct to that of Caucasians as it doesn't exist in their genes.

It is a recessive gene and is more common in children than in adults, with hair tending to darken as the individual matures.

This contributes to the theories that black Africans were the first homo sapiens and that all races came out of the black African race.

For several years, blond hair was attributed to Caucasians but the Melanesians of Solomon Islands are one of the few groups with blonde hair outside Europe.

Down in the Kunene and Omusati regions of Northern Namibia, are the semi-nomadic people of Ovahimba and Ovazimba tribes.

With a population of over 50,000, the Himba are a polygamous people where Himba&nbsp;girls are married off to male partners selected by their fathers once they attain puberty.

According to the Guardian, "When a visitor comes knocking, a man shows his approval and pleasure of seeing his guest by giving him the&nbsp;Okujepisa Omukazendu&nbsp;treatment — the wife is given to his guest to spend the night while the husband sleeps in another room. In a case where there is no available room, her husband will sleep outside."

This, apparently, reduces jealousy and fosters relationships.

Another tradition that has stood the test of time is the "bathing is forbidden" rule. Rather than take their baths, the women take a smoke bath and apply aromatic resins on their skin. They are also guided by the belief that the colour red signifies “Earth and blood”. Their red skin is one of the things that make them extremely unique. The red colour is from the&nbsp;otjize&nbsp;paste (a combination of butterfat, omuzumba&nbsp;scrub and ochre) and its function is to protect their skin from the harsh desert sun and insect bites.

A brief walk into the lives of the 5 richest kings in Africa

1 medium smoked Mackerel/Titus (optional)

3 tablespoons ground&nbsp;crayfish

Vegetable: choice of Scent leaves (nchanwu), curry leaves or parsley

1. If you're using stock fish and dry fish, wash them and soak them in water for a while, then separate into piece. Put the pieces into a big pot, add the diced onions and the stock cubes. Add some water to cover the ingredients and cook till the stock fish is very soft.

2. Add the pepper, ground crayfish and palm oil.

3. Top up the water to the same level as the contents of the pot if necessary. Cover and cook at medium to high heat for about 7 minutes. This is the time the palm oil needs to fully integrate with the rest of the ingredients.

4. Add the drained parboiled rice, stir very well and check that the liquid is at the same level as the rice. If less, top it up with more water.

5. Place the smoked fish and the washed, chopped vegetables on top of the rice.

6. Cover the pot and leave to cook on low to medium heat. This way the rice does not burn before the water dries up.

7. When by the time the water dries up, this should mean the Concoction Rice is done. Taste to confirm. If not, add water and keep cooking till done.

8. Once rice is done, turn off the heat. Add the scent leaves or parsley on top of the rice, cover and leave to stand for 5 minutes, then stir. and it is ready to be served!

Your rice is finally ready! Serve with whatever you have.

2. Add the sliced tomatoes, onions and peppers and sauté for about 10-15 minutes. Stir well, else you end up with burnt tomatoes.

3. Once the tomatoes and pepper are adequately fried, add salt to taste and the stock cube.

4. Beat the eggs in a separate plate with a pinch of salt.

5. Pour the beaten eggs on top of the frying tomato, onion and pepper. Allow a minute, and then sauté.

6. Break the eggs into crumbs as you fry. When the eggs have fried adequately, put off heat.

When, free from all solicitude, all harassing care, shall I be able to pass all my time with you, having only to love you, and to think only of the happiness of so saying, and of proving it to you?"

While known for his ruthlessness, French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte also possessed a softer side. In letters to his wife, Joséphine, the military leader reveals a vulnerability not found in his autocratic approach to expanding the French empire. And while he later divorced her when she could not have children, Napoleon continued to write to Joséphine for years after their separation. In one particular letter,&nbsp;penned while Napoleon was commanding the French army near Italy&nbsp;a few months after their marriage, he expresses, quite romantically, how much he misses his wife.

Nobel Prize-winning American novelist Ernest Hemingway was a prolific, confident writer, but in his letters to actress Marlene Dietrich, he shows a more vulnerable side. Hemingway wrote Dietrich, his best friend, approximately 30 letters between 1949 to 1959, but as Dietrich's daughter, Maria Riva, explains in&nbsp;a New York Times article, the two were merely close friends.

Mexican painter and cultural icon, Frida Kahlo remains best known for her vibrant self-portraits, which fuse surrealism with a traditional Mexican aesthetic. From 1929 to 1954, Kahlo was married to prominent Mexican painter Diego Rivera, during which time she penned a number of profound love letters to her husband. The letters, republished in&nbsp;The Diary of Frida Kahlo: An Intimate Self-Portrait,&nbsp;are representative of the intense, and often volatile, nature of their relationship.

This letter was found after Beethoven died, addressed to the unknown lover named “Immortal Beloved”. The iconic composer and pianist wrote a number of letters in 1812, still largely a mystery, which paint a very vivid picture. Many historians believe Beethoven's "Beloved" to have been a diplomat’s daughter, named Antonie Brentano, to whom the composer dedicated his "Diabelli Variations Op. 120."
