GH ballers abroad: Dede Ayew nets again, Semenyo wins MOTM as Lamptey sees red

Ghanaian players were in action again over the weekend across the globe with some stars shining as others failed to impress for their club sides.

Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew made a fine case for himself amid growing speculations about his national team’s future. Whether he will be included in coach Otto Addo’s squad this month is another matter to be discussed later.

However, his recent form cannot be overlooked. He once again contributed to two goals; a goal and an assist in Le Havre’s 4-3 dramatic comeback win over Lens in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday.

Elsewhere in England, Antoine Semenyo and Tariq Lamptey were in action for their respective clubs in the FA Cup fifth round, albeit, it was a polarising display from the two.

While Semenyo was named Man of the Match in Bournemouth's 5-4 win on penalties over Wolves, Lamptey was sent off in Brighton’s clash against Newcastle United. His club with the aid of Ghanaian descent Danny Welbeck’s extra-time strike emerged victorious over the Magpies after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time.

Alfred Mensah and Samuel Owusu, both climbed off the bench to score for their respective clubs.

The former netted for Vllaznia in their 2-2 draw against Laci, as the latter scored for OFK Beograd in their 2-0 win over Radnicki Nis in the Serbian SuperLig.

Likewise, Mohammed Fusein, also came off the bench to score for Royale Union SG in their 4-1 win over Dender in the Belgium top-flight league.

Off to the United States and Forster Ajago just like the three named above was a super-sub as he scored for Real Salt Lake in their 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders in the MLS.

It was also a good weekend for Jeffery Schlupp as Celtic thrashed St. Mirren 5-2 in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, March 1. Schlupp scored one goal and set up another, to increase his goal tally to two since joining the Scottish club from Crystal Palace.

Benjamin Tetteh, other stars shine abroad

Benjamin Tetteh

With the Black Stars lacking firepower upfront, many have tipped Benjamin Tetteh to receive a call-up again. He once again proved why by scoring and registering an assistfor Maribor in their 4-0 win over Radomlje in the Slovenia top-flight league.

Mohammed Sofo also in the MLS, scored for New York Red Bulls in their 2-0 win over Nashville SC.

Zubairu Ibrahim found the back of the net for Partizan in their 4-1 win over Tekstilac Odzaci in the Serbian Super Lig.
