<p><a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/ghana-businessinsider-sports/sports-take-a-look-at-the-gorgeous-dollar524-million-arena-the-milwaukee-bucks-are-2024072313103794676">Milwaukee Bucks</a> forward Bobby Portis Jr. has been suspended for 25 games after violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy, the league announced on Thursday.</p>

<p>The 2021 champion tested positive for Tramadol, an opioid commonly used for pain relief, particularly when other medications are not effective or cannot be used, as stated by the National Institutes of Health.</p>

<p>Portis will not be appealing the suspension, according to reports. <a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/ghana-businessinsider-sports/sports-take-a-look-at-the-gorgeous-dollar524-million-arena-the-milwaukee-bucks-are-2024072313103794676">The Bucks</a>, who now have one open roster spot, will likely make an immediate move. The suspension will cost Portis $2.85 million in lost wages.</p>

<p>In a statement, Portis explained that he unintentionally took an unapproved pill while managing an elbow injury.</p>

<blockquote><p>I was dealing with an elbow injury and using an NBA-approved medication for pain and inflammation. During that time, I made an honest mistake and took a pain-reducing anti-inflammatory pill that is not approved.</p></blockquote>

<p>Portis expressed regret and took full responsibility for the incident.</p>

From the bottom of my heart, I want to apologize to the Bucks organization, my teammates, coaches, family, and fans. I give everything I have on the court and will terribly miss playing games for the Bucks during this time. I will continue to work hard and be ready for our long playoff run. Thank you for your support. I appreciate it more than you know.</p></blockquote>

<p>Bucks general manager Jon Horst acknowledged the suspension but expressed his continued support for Portis.</p>

<p>Portis’ suspension will begin with Thursday’s game against the<a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/ghana-businessinsider-sports/sports-palimony-lawsuit-reveals-details-of-tense-relationship-blake-griffin-and-the-2024072317040512906"> Los Angeles Clippers</a> at Fiserv Forum. He is expected to return to the lineup for the Bucks’ home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on April 8, which will be Milwaukee’s fourth-to-last game of the regular season.</p>

<p>The Bucks are currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 29-24. Portis will be eligible to play in the postseason if the team qualifies.</p>

<p>Portis, who has finished in the top three in voting for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in each of the last two seasons, has played 46 games this season, averaging 13.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.</p>

<p>In an interview with Soccer Africa, Boateng discussed the difficult circumstances the nation's football has been going through and blamed the team's recent setbacks on a lack of consistency, highlighting how important this element is to the national team's success.</p>

<p>Wrexham AFC star Elliot Lee has shared an emotional message with fans after revealing how he narrowly avoided death in a <a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/sports/football/ecuador-mourns-2-footballers-involved-in-car-crash-confirmed-dead-2024111914331452755">car crash</a>.</p>

<p>The 30-year-old midfielder, who previously played for <a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/sports/football/mohammed-kudus-to-play-under-new-manager-as-west-ham-name-graham-potter-coach-2025010910201690931">West Ham United</a>, was travelling home after Wrexham’s 1-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers in the Vertu Trophy last Tuesday night when the accident happened. Both drivers were rushed to hospital following the two-vehicle collision, but Lee was fortunate to escape with no serious injuries, per reports by the Mirror.</p>

<p>Despite his close call, Lee has missed Wrexham’s last two matches, including their disappointing 2-1 home loss to Leyton Orient in League One. He has since posted an update on social media, sharing pictures of his badly damaged car and expressing his relief at escaping with only minor injuries.</p>

<p>In a heartfelt Instagram post, Lee said:</p>

<p>Lee also took the time to thank the emergency services who attended the scene of the crash. The injuries of the other driver remain unknown, but Lee has expressed his gratitude for the support he has received, saying, "it means a lot."</p>

<p>Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson spoke about Lee’s condition earlier this week, noting that it would be "difficult" to give a timeline for his return.</p>

<p>Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Wisdom Kobena Woyome, has supported the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to keep<a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/sports/sports-minister-kofi-adams-slams-decision-to-keep-otto-addo-2025021411145222154"> Otto Addo</a> as Black Stars coach.</p>

<p>After the senior national team’s failure to qualify for the <a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/sports/2025-afcon-match-schedule-revealed-by-caf-2025020115203510969">2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)</a>, many called for the 49-year-old coach’s dismissal. Addo had been reappointed in March 2024 on a three-year contract with an option for a two-year extension.</p>

<p>However, this decision has not been popular with many Ghanaian football fans.</p>

<p>In an interview, Woyome defended the choice and expressed confidence in Addo’s ability to guide the Black Stars to the 2026 World Cup qualification.</p>

<p>He made these comments during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show:</p>

<blockquote><p>I don’t agree with those calling for Otto Addo’s dismissal. I admit that he failed to qualify the Black Stars for AFCON, but I don’t believe he would want to set another bad record by failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.</p></blockquote>

<blockquote><p>If we sacked him and brought in a new coach who also fails, I don’t think that would be a good decision. I believe retaining him is the right call, and I hope he will turn things around by ensuring we qualify for the World Cup.</p></blockquote>

<p>Woyome also promised that an NDC government would do everything possible to make sure the Black Stars play in the tournament, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.</p>

<h2>Beefed up Black Stars technical team</h2>

<p>Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has strengthened the<a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/sports/breaking-gfa-names-new-black-stars-technical-team-to-assist-otto-ado-see-new-names-2025012908024154646"> Black Stars’ technical team</a>. German coach Winfried Schaffer has been appointed as a technical advisor and football director for both the Black Stars and the GFA.</p>

<p>In addition, Ghana’s U-20 head coach, Desmond Offei, has been promoted to assistant coach of the senior national team, replacing German coach Joseph Laumann. Offei will work alongside current assistants John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda under Addo’s leadership.</p>
