Pan-Africanist and law Professor, Professor P.L.O Lumumba expressed disgust at some African leaders for holding on to corrupt practices only for the west to enjoy the wealth they accumulated after their death.
Prof Lumumba bemoaned that the corruption canker has bedevilled Africa, saying it was high time both the leaders and the citizenry did their parts to change the status quo.
“Many African leaders suffer from primitive accumulation… Even the middle ages, we hunt and gather the wild animals. The things that we now hunt and gather are houses and cars and the money and the tragedy is, we keep them in Europe and America, we keep them in Switzerland and we don’t even tell our wives and when we die, the Swiss enjoy them,” he said while speaking at the PAV Ansah Memorial Lecture in Accra on the theme: "Good governance, whither Africa?”.
“This is the tragedy. But we know where the problem is. Beyond the lamentation, what must we do going forward? We have danced for too long. We must now think. Africans must begin thinking because going forward, it is our ability to think that will endure that we are creative and innovative… Each one of us has the duty and opportunity to change Africa”, he added.
