The female appointees in the Mahama-led administration are performing better than their male counterparts.

This was revealed by President John Mahama during a campaign rally in Nsawam in the Eastern Region as part of his five-day tour.

“If you look at my government, I appointed a lot of women into positions (ministers). These women perform their duties and responsibilities as diligently as their male counterparts. Most times they perform better than even the men.”

President Mahama said he was handicapped in selecting more women because there were a few of them in Parliament. He argued that the constitutional provision requires that majority of ministers must come from parliament which makes it impossible to appoint more women.

He, therefore, urged the electorates of Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency to vote for the NDC’s Parliamentary candidate in the constituency, Benedicta Asante.

“So vote more women into parliament for them to also get influential positions to help in the development of the nation. You are fortunate the NDC candidate here is Benedicta Asante.”

Most gender activists have been advocating for more women to be elected to parliament and also occupy other political roles.
