Otumfuor's mother declares support for Nana Addo

The Asantehemaa (Queen of Ashanti) Nana Afia Kobi Ampem has declared her unflinching support for the 2016 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party.

Speaking on her behalf a spokesperson for the Asantehemaa, (Asantehemaa Kyeame,) Nana Akua Agyeman Kromo, said they have offered prayers for Nana Addo and the NPP to win the 2016 general elections.

“We’re in total support of all that you are doing. We are asking for God’s blessing for this country. As we support you, we won’t turn back. As for us, our statement is very short, we are for change. We are fully behind you and we know that change is coming. As you continue with your tour, we know everything will be successful. Just know you have our support.”

She said this when the wife of Nana Addo Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on the queen mother. Mrs Akufo-Addo is in the Ashanti Region for a three-day tour, shortly after her husband left the region.

The Asantehene was addressing the last session of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs.

“If you want to engage in politics, then I will advise you to vacate your stools. Leaders of the various political parties visit you at your various palaces and may give you gifts, but do not be swayed by the gifts and start endorsing them because that is not the work of chiefs," he said.

He warned that no chief under him will be allowed to meddle in politics.
