Husband beats second wife to death with cane over Ramadan food

The Bauchi State Police Command in Nigeria has apprehended a 50-year-old man, Alhaji Nuru Isah, for allegedly causing the death of his wife, Wasila Abdullahi, by striking her with a cane.

The incident, according Nigerian news portal Daily Trust, occurred near Government Girls College in the Fadamam Mada Area of Bauchi.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil, revealed:

On March 1, 2025, at approximately 11:30 PM, the Bauchi State Police Command was alerted to an alleged culpable homicide incident near Government Girls College, Fadamam Mada Area, Bauchi. This unfortunate event arose from a misunderstanding between one Alh Nuru Isah, aged 50, a businessman at Central Market Bauchi, and his second wife, Wasila Abdullahi, aged 24, concerning the handling of food ingredients and fruits designated for breaking the Ramadan fast, which escalated into a violent confrontation.

Following the altercation, Abdullahi collapsed after being struck with the cane and was subsequently transported to ATBU Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her death.

The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a thorough investigation into the incident, and the suspect is currently in detention. Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, has assured the public that ensuring justice in this case remains a priority for the command.

Ongoing KNUST student death in Ghana

Meanwhile, in Ghana a 21-year-old level 400 student has been remanded in prison custody for two weeks alleged murder of a final-year female student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The Ghana Police Service confirmed the suspect Daniel Tuffuor’s arrest on Thursday, February 27, 2025, following preliminary investigations into the incident.

According to the police, the deceased, Yabane Deladem Aku, was found unresponsive behind the Central Laboratory on campus in the early hours of the day.

She was pronounced dead by medical personnel from KNUST Hospital, who examined the body at the scene before it was transported to the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The suspect is to reappear before court on March 17, 2025.
