President John Dramani Mahama has announced that allowances for nursing and teacher trainees across Ghana will now be disbursed by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).

The move, aimed at addressing the long-standing delays in payments, was revealed during the President’s Thank You Tour in Tamale on Saturday, March 22. Engaging with students, professionals, and community leaders, Mahama outlined key policy measures designed to improve livelihoods and ensure financial stability for trainees.

For years, nursing and teacher trainees have struggled with erratic allowance payments, often waiting months to receive their stipends. Many have voiced frustrations over the delays, which make it difficult to cover essential costs like transportation, feeding, and study materials.

Mahama assured trainees that this new approach would bring an end to the inconsistencies.

This has been made a part of the compensations item in the budget and this will permanently eliminate the delay in trainees receiving their allowances. This means that anytime public sector workers receive their monthly salaries, teacher and nursing trainees will also receive their allowances

This policy shift will come as a major relief to thousands of trainees who have long faced uncertainty over when their stipends would be paid.
