<p>Studies have shown that today’s young adults are less socially engaged than previous generations. This has been attributed to the rise of online social platforms and the decline of in-person gatherings.</p>

<p>A study by Harmony Healthcare IT found that more than half of Gen Zs (those currently aged 15 to 28) experience some form of daily anxiety. The most common triggers include public spaces, crowds, work environments, acquaintances, and even family, in descending order. Essentially, the more social the situation, the higher their anxiety—leading to fewer opportunities for developing communication skills.</p>

At such a crucial developmental stage, it’s no surprise that many young adults feel too overwhelmed to socialise properly.</p>

Meet Karni’s visually impaired farmers who are breaking barriers in agriculture

<p>The <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/local/union-of-professional-nurses-and-midwives-criticises-grnmas-unilateral-cos-2024072418213373919">Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA)</a> has urged the government to exempt newly recruited nurses from its directive suspending all public service appointments made after 7 December 2024.</p>

<p>In a statement signed by its President, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and Secretary, Dr David Tenkorang-Twum, the association warned that if the directive affects its members, it will take <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/local/nurses-midwives-finally-suspend-nationwide-strike-2024081116075455206">industrial action in solidarity with the affected nurses.</a></p>

<p>The statement follows a directive from the Chief of Staff at Jubilee House, dated 10 February 2025, ordering the revocation of public sector appointments made after the specified date.</p>

<p>The GRNMA initially planned to issue a press release after an emergency meeting on 13 February but postponed it following a discussion with Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh. The minister assured them that the Ministry of Health (MoH) is investigating all public sector recruitments made after 7 December to identify any irregularities, including those within the health sector.</p>

<p>However, a<a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/local/ghana-records-34000-new-hiv-infections-in-the-third-quarter-of-2024-2024111914150682035"> Ghana Health Service (GHS) </a>circular dated 12 February directed divisional and regional health directors to suspend newly recruited nurses who were yet to be placed on payroll as of January 2025.</p>

<p>The GRNMA argued that these nurses and midwives are fully trained professionals whose recruitment process began with financial clearance in mid-2024. It insisted that payroll delays should not be a reason for suspension.</p>

<blockquote><p>If there is an investigation to be conducted, it should be completed before the affected individuals are asked to step aside.</p></blockquote>

<p>The association cautioned that suspending newly recruited nurses would worsen the country’s already dire nurse-to-patient ratio and increase burnout among existing health workers.</p>

<p>It called on the government to reconsider the directive and allow affected nurses to remain at post, urging members to stay focused while awaiting further directives.</p>

[Video] Heartbroken husband of nurse who burnt to death inconsolable at funeral

First-class travel ban for Gov’t officials won’t reduce costs - Nana Aba Anamoah

<p>The curfew, suggested by the Regional Security Council, was a measure taken by the government to control the outbreaks of violence in the area, in connection with the Bawku conflicts.</p>

<p>In light of this, the government has urged residents to remain calm and seek peaceful solutions. A ban on carrying weapons has also been enforced, with offenders facing arrest and prosecution.</p>

Angry youth in Walewale destroy Regional Minister’s vehicle over curfew imposition

<blockquote><p>The 2025 AU theme of the year is, therefore, a call to galvanise efforts towards reparatory justice. It is an appeal to ensure that the dignity, rights, and well-being of Africans and their descendants are fully restored.</p></blockquote>

<p>Mahama emphasised that reparations extend beyond financial compensation to include restitution, rehabilitation, and assurances against the recurrence of past abuses.</p>

<blockquote><p>Reparations involve not only financial compensation but also restitution, rehabilitation, and guarantees of non-repetition for the abuse of fellow human beings. It is also about truth-telling, historical accountability, and responsibility to those who have been marginalised for centuries.</p></blockquote>

Mahama pushes for reparatory justice for Africans at 38th AU Assembly

<p>A young man has shared a troubling encounter with a mysterious individual who attempted to illicitly secure him a spot in the Ghana National Service Scheme (<a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/no-more-nss-allowance-delays-nsa-director-vows-2025021313060534989">NSS</a>).</p>

<p>The stranger promised <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/its-unfair-youth-devt-minister-vows-to-pay-4-months-nss-arrears-2025012816131015740">a monthly salary </a>without requiring him to render any services. However, trusting his instincts, he wisely declined the suspicious offer.</p>

<blockquote><p>A strange number called and asked for my name. I confirmed it was me, then the person said they got my number from someone. They told me they had an offer for me. The person explained that the deal would allow me to receive free money at the end of the month.</p></blockquote>

<blockquote><p>He said the amount was about 500 or 600 Ghana Cedis and that someone would process it for me, but they would take 50% of the sum. All I needed to do was provide my name and Ghana Card details, and they would handle the rest. At the end of the month, I would receive something.</p></blockquote>

<blockquote><p>I asked, what scheme are we looking at? The person said NSS. Even if you’ve completed, it doesn’t matter. Shocked, I told the guy I would think about it, but I wasn’t interested in such things. Three days later, he called again. The guy was that serious. He said he had done it for a few people, and they were earning too.</p></blockquote>

<p>Despite repeated refusals, the caller kept insisting that the young man provide his details to start receiving the fraudulent earnings.</p>

<p>Criticising the moral decline among the youth, he lamented:</p>

<blockquote><p>This is how far the <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/no-more-nss-allowance-delays-nsa-director-vows-2025021313060534989">NSS scheme</a> has gone. But I think we, the youth, are part of the problem because if someone calls you with a deal like this, what would you do? I think our moral compass has decayed a little bit.</p></blockquote>

<p>He also highlighted the security risks associated with such corrupt practices and called for urgent action to restore moral integrity among Ghana’s youth in the fight against corruption.</p>

<p>Previously, an NSS mandatory headcount revealed <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/president-mahama-orders-nib-to-investigate-over-81000-suspected-nss-ghost-names-2025021212235520039">a total of 81,885 suspected ghost names</a> on the NSS payroll out of the 180,030 registered national service personnel, indicating a corrupt scheme that embezzled funds released for NSS personnel. The matter is currently still undergoing investigation.</p>

<p>A violent <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/vehicles-other-properties-vandalised-as-kti-and-kass-students-clash-2025020408591473655">clash </a>erupted yesterday between students of Islamic Senior High School  (ISSEC) in Kumasi and local youth near the <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/sports/ecg-cuts-power-to-baba-yara-stadium-over-ghcent130000-debt-2025021509535503911">Baba Yara Sports Stadium</a>.</p>

<p>The confrontation saw both groups hurling stones and objects at each other, resulting in damage to vehicles and injuries to bystanders.</p>

<p>In a series of viral videos, individuals could be seen aggressively throwing stones as others ran in different directions to escape the chaos.</p>

<p>Another video showed a damaged civilian vehicle, with its driver sustaining a severe <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/politics/2024-elections-a-male-voter-sustains-head-injury-in-odododiodio-constituency-2024120715410911211">head injury.</a></p>

[Video] Chaos erupts as ISSEC students, local youth clash at Baba Yara Sports Stadium

<p>The M23 rebels have seized Bukavu, the second-largest city in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in a major escalation of the ongoing conflict.</p>

<p>Corneille Nangaa, leader of the Congo River Alliance, confirmed that the rebels entered South Kivu’s provincial capital on Friday evening, with plans to push further on Saturday.</p>

<p>The rebel takeover comes despite growing calls for a ceasefire and a return to peace talks. The Rwandan-backed M23 rebels, who previously captured Goma in January, have forced hundreds of thousands to flee their homes in recent weeks.</p>

<p>M23, a Tutsi-led armed group, claims to be fighting for the protection of its ethnic community, but the Congolese government insists Rwanda is fueling the conflict to exploit the region’s vast mineral wealth—an accusation Kigali has repeatedly denied.</p>

<p>The fall of Bukavu is particularly strategic, as the city serves as a key transit hub for minerals and sits along the southern tip of Lake Kivu, bordering Rwanda.</p>

<p>Earlier on Friday, M23 fighters reportedly took control of an airport 30km north of Bukavu, as Congolese troops and allied militia withdrew without much resistance. However, reports indicate heavy clashes erupted on the outskirts of Bukavu, with the Congolese army struggling to hold its ground.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, 70 bodies were discovered in a church in Mayba, further north. Local sources claim the victims were tied up and blamed the <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/3-south-african-soldiers-killed-in-drc-clashes-2025012517272466824">killings </a>on Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an Islamic State-linked group.</p>

<p>Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, DRC President Félix Tshisekedi renewed his call for the international community to <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/congo-severs-ties-with-rwanda-over-rising-rebel-activities-2025012608422397127">sanction Rwanda</a>, accusing Kigali of "expansionist ambitions".</p>

Akufo-Addo is the best African President ever – Kofi Akpaloo

<p>Everyone has a story to tell when they look back at their time as university students—the arduous nights of studying, the long, tedious lectures, and the never-ending assignments. Then there are the personal challenges: heartbreak, loss, financial struggles, and more. But how many have had to overcome a language barrier while striving for academic excellence?</p>

<p>Abdul-Rasheed Sulemana has such a story to tell. He was admitted into university barely able to speak English.</p>

<blockquote><p>When I was in Level 100, I couldn’t even speak English!</p></blockquote>

<p>Born and raised in Bongbini, a Mamprugu community in North-East Ghana, near Nalerigu, Abdul-Rasheed had his basic education at Bongbini Primary School and Gbangu Junior High School, before gaining admission to Nalerigu Senior High School in 2017. He studied General Arts and wrote the WASSCE in 2020, successfully passing his exams.</p>

<blockquote><p>After writing BECE in 2017… I travelled to Tamale to hustle and get money so that when school reopens and I gain admission, I should be able to have something to pay my school fees in case the <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/news/local/ndc-pledges-free-level-100-fees-extends-free-shs-to-include-private-schools-2024092708072002890">Free Education</a> couldn’t work whilst taking care of my other expenses. During my time in SHS, whenever I vacated, I had to travel back to Tamale and work again so that by the time I resumed, I would have some money.</p></blockquote>

<p>Abdul-Rasheed later applied to the <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/articles/entertainment/jackie-appiah-earns-masters-degree-from-the-university-of-ghana-2025021213205372093">University of Ghana</a>, where he was admitted to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Information Studies, and Sociology under the Distance Education programme. However, financing his education became a major challenge, as his family was already struggling with existing financial burdens following the loss of their home.</p>

<p>With no one to sponsor his education, he sought financial aid from his constituency’s Member of Parliament (MP) at the time but was repeatedly denied help for irrational reasons—one being that his footwear was deemed “inappropriate” when he tried to meet him. Desperate, he secured a one-year contract as a labourer to fund his tuition. Later, he took up a job as a security officer, which helped sustain him throughout the rest of his semesters.</p>
