At a time when political viewpoints feel more polarizing than ever, a new study conducted by Pew Research, first reported by Business Insider , found that the majority of single Democrats (71%) looking for a committed romantic relationship would not date someone who voted for Trump in the 2016 election.

In fact, 45% of single-and-looking Democrats said they would definitely not date a 2016 Trump voter, and 27% said they probably would not. Only 4% of Democrats said they have already dated a Trump voter, 8% claimed they definitely would, and 16% said they probably would. The takeaway here: Just 28% of Democrats are open to being in a committed relationship with a Trump voter.

On the other side of the political aisle, 47% of single-and-looking Republicans said they would not consider having a romantic relationship with someone who voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. Nineteen percent of Republicans said they definitely would not, and 29% of Republicans said they probably would not. Again, 4% of Republicans reported that they have already dated a Clinton voter, but 12% who have not said they definitely would and 35% said they probably would. The takeaway: 51% of Republicans are open to being in a committed relationship with a Clinton voter.

Notably, Democrats are more open to dating someone who identifies as Republican, assuming they didnt vote for Trump, with only 43% of single-but-looking Democrats reporting they definitely or probably wouldnt date a Republican. Republicans are more open to dating a Democrat who didnt vote for Clinton, with 24% reporting they definitely or probably wouldnt date Democrat.

Interestingly, theres even a division of dating preferences within party line, with 13% of Democrats stating they the would not considering being in are relationship with someone who voted for Clinton, whereas only 5% of Republicans said the same about someone who voted for Trump.
