7 foods to avoid eating on an empty stomach

Want better digestion? Avoid eating these foods on an empty stomach.

It is very easy to jump for the first meal you get your hands on when you are hungry but it is important to note that some of those foods can cause digestive issues later on.

Here are seven foods to avoid eating on an empty stomach.

1.Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain high levels of tannic acid which increases acidity in the stomach thus leading to gastric ulcers.

2.Bananas

The high levels of magnesium and potassium in bananas can cause an imbalance in the magnesium and potassium in our blood streams when eaten while on an empty stomach.

3.Processed sugar

Too much processed sugar in the body has the same effect on your liver after drinking too much alcohol.

4.Tea/coffee

Coffee on an empty stomach increases the stomach’s acidity. The effects of drinking coffee on an empty stomach can lead to heartburn and indigestion.

Tea on an empty stomach on the other hand stops the secretion of gastric juices as well as reducing bile and acid in the stomach which are responsible for assisting in digestion.

5.Alcohol

Drinking alcohol on an empty stomach not only gets you high faster – seeing that the alcohol travels directly to the bloodstream – but also travels to the liver, kidneys, stomach, lungs and brain as well.

This alters the body’s function.
