This was confirmed by Greater Accra Police PRO Freeman Tettey in an interview.
The cause of the misunderstanding wasn’t clear, but the police described the incident as domestic quarrel.
An eye witness who was at the Legon Police where John Paintsil was held said the deputy Black Stars skipper at the time was brought together with his three kids and were escorted by a group of police men, one armed.
The wife, Richlove Paintsil was reported to have jumped the Trasacco wall to her neighbour, ostensibly to escape the assault of the husband but Paintsil was alleged to have followed into the neighbour's house and handed a few slaps to the man holding the wife. It was reported that the wife went unconscious after sustaining serious injuries to her eye.

However, Richlove denied being stabbed and after a period of legal battle between the state and Paintsil, the case was cancelled.
Paintsil was part of the Black Stars team that played in the FIFA World Cup in 2006 and 2010
