The flagbearer of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has said the party will not give up easily following his disqualification from the presidential race in the 2016 elections.

Dr Nduom was disqualified along with 12 other presidential candidates by the Electoral Commission for filing anomalies including fraudulent signatures, absence of required number of signatures, improper filling of nomination forms, among others as the reasons for their disqualification.

The EC Chair said Dr. Nduom was disqualified because: “The Commission is unable to accept Dr Nduom’s nomination because again the number of subscribers in his forms did not make the requirements of regulation 7(2) of CI 94.

The details are as follows, one subscriber, Mr Richard Aseda, with voter ID number 7812003957 endorsed Dr Nduom’s forms in the Central region and again endorsed the same forms with the same ID number in the Volta region."

But Dr Nduom in a  tweet said, "PROGRESSIVES DO NOT GIVE UP THAT EASILY. WE WILL PRESS ON!"

However, Charlotte Osei said “The Commission will again refer the matter of a possible forgery of signatures to the Ghana Police Service and the Attorney General for investigation and prosecution in line with the Criminal Offence Act.”

The presidential nominees disqualified include flag bearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga; Dr Edward Mahama of the People’s National Convention (PNC); Dr Agyenim Boateng of the United Front Party (UFP); and Kofi Akpaloo of the Independent People’s Party (IPP); Kwabena Adjei of the Reformed Patriotic Democrats (RPD).

Others include: Dr Henry Herbert Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP); Mr Richard Nixon Tetteh (United Development Systems Party); Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP); Thomas Ward-Brew of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP); Alfred Kwame Asiedu Walker, an independent candidate, and Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP). Mr Akwasi Addae Odike of the United Progressive Party’s nomination is on hold pending a court case.
