17 presidential aspirants file nominations to contest

Presidential and parliamentary candidates are mandated to a filing fee of GH¢50,000 and GH¢10,000 respectively but several political parties have raised concerns with the pricing.

Sixteen political parties and nine independent candidates picked nomination forms but only seventeen presented it to the EC.

The forms were submitted to the EC without the GH¢50, 000 filing fee due to an interlocutory injunction filed by the Progressive People’s Party.

President John Mahama of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday submitted their forms to the Electoral Commission to contest in the general elections.

Others are Akwasi ‘Odike’ Addai of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Nana Agyenim Boateng, aka Gyataba, of the United Freedom Party (UFP), Mr Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progresive People’s Party (PPP), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Dr Edward Mahama of the People’s National Convention (PNC).

The rest were Mr Kofi Apaloo of the Independent People’s Party (IPP), Madam Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) and Mr Kwabena Adjei of the Reform Patriotic Democrats (RPD), WO1 Richard Nixon Tetteh of the Unity Development System Party (UDSP), Ward Brew of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP), Kwame Asiedu Walker (Independent) and Jacob Osei Yeboah (Independent).
