Kennedy Agyapong must apologize - NPP

Nana Akomea said the party found the comments as “unfortunate and regrettable.”

Nana Akomea, Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party has revealed that Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central has been urged to apologize to the Chairperson of the National Electoral Commission for comments he made that has been deemed insulting, sexist and defamatory.

Kennedy Agyapong, a couple of weeks ago, suggested that the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei traded sex for the electoral commission job, drawing criticism from members of the general public.'

Nana Akomea said the party found the comments as “Unfortunate and regrettable.”

Kennedy Agyapong this week, said, his comments were meant as a joke, and not a serious accusation. Speaking on Adom FM, he said he was not expecting the media to hype it as it was done.

Mr Akomea says, contrary to public belief that the NPP did not  call the Assin Central MP to order,  the NPP reprimanded the MP for the comments. “There is no doubt this comment against women is terribly unfortunate,” he said.

Speaking on News File, Nana Akomea said,  “The party has engaged him [Mr Agyepong] in the matter and the party has urged him to do the honourable thing,”

He, however, believes the latest reaction of Mr Agyepong regarding the comment reflect his regret but added, “I wish he would have done the honourable thing to apologise.”
