Gabon suffered elimination from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, following a goalless draw against Cameroon to become the fourth host nation to be crashed out at the group phase of the AFCON.
The hosts drew all their three group games to finish behind Burkina Faso and Cameroon in group A.

The first host nation to suffer this fate was Ethiopia in 1976 when they failed to qualify from a group which had Guinea, Egypt and Uganda.

And the second time it happened in the continental showpiece was in 1984 when host nation Ivory Coast finished behind Egypt and Cameroon in group A to exit the competition at the group phase.
The last time the host nation of the Africa Cup of Nations were denied the chance from progressing from their group was in 1994- Tunisia who were drawn with Zaire and Mali in group A finished last to bow out of the competition.
