Adentan constituency gears up to elect parliamentary aspirants

Our focus today will be on the Adentan constituency in the Greater Accra Region

The National Democratic Congress NDC heads to the polls on the 7th of November 2015 to elect parliamentary and presidential nominees to represent the party in the 2016 election.

This particular election is crucial and special because for the first time in the history of the NDC, the party has opened its electoral register to allow all card bearing members to partake in this process.

There are however key constituencies to watch out for across the country , such as the Keta, Ketu South, Buem, Adentan, Korle Clottey, Ashiaman,Ledzokuku and La Dadekotopon constituencies.

Our focus today will be on the Adentan constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

Located in the Adentan Municipal Assembly this particular constituency was created in 2004 when the Electoral Commission divided the Ashiaman constituency into two creating Adentan and the Ashiaman constituencies.

The constituency has since its creation had three different members of Parliament namely Kwadjo Opare Hammond who won the seat on the ticket of the NPP. Kojo Adu Asare of the NDC, and the incumbent Nii Ashie Moore also the NDC.

Adentan is notoriously known for changing legislators during every election. The seat which can be so far said to be a near comfortable one for the NDC has become one of the key seats pay attention to because the party has also changed parliamentary candidates in every primaries it has held.

The first MP to represent the party in parliament in the constituency was Kojo Adu Asare even though he won the seat by 20,230 votes representing 54.3 percent of total votes; he was not maintained during the 2011 primaries. He was replaced by incumbent Nii Ashie Moore.

With the party preparing for their upcoming primaries, three people have filed and have been cleared to contest the incumbent in the election.

What is more interesting is that Nii Ashie Moore is facing stiff challenge from his onetime girlfriend and current Municipal Chief Executive for Adentan, Kakra Vanlare.

One of these two personalities is highly tipped to capture the ticket for the NDC due to their influence in the constituency and also the support they hold on the grounds because of the positions they currently holding.

But a surprise can also be expected from the other two aspirant contesting the seat, former incarcerated minister of sports under the NPP Mallam Issah who joined the NDC from the PNC after he was released from prison. A relatively young candidate Ahmed Ramadan a son of the PNC national chairman Dr. Ahmed Ramadan whom rumors have is being backed by the flagstaff house.

The Adenta constituency will be interesting to keep an eye on, on the 7th of November 2015 when the NDC decides.
