Boakye Agyarko considers legal action against Mahama Ayariga

Mr Agyarko said it would be unthinkable for him to offer money to members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee to approve his nomination.

The Energy Minister has said he would consider legal action against Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga for bribery allegation leveled against him.

Mahama Ayariga said on Accra-based Radio Gold that Mr Agyarko sent money to the minority side in an attempt to influence them.

The NDC Member of Parliament said they (the minority) received the money thinking it was sitting allowance for being part of the Appointments Committee only to be told it was coming from the minister designate.

He said they rejected the money and asked that the money be returned to him.

But the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Osei Owusu, subsequently indicated thatMr Ayariga said he made the claims to level the field for similar wild and unsubstantiated allegations made against former President John Mahama during the 2016 campaign.

Mr Ayariga later denied the comments as being stated by Mr Osei Owusu.

“I was not making up any facts to equalise for the bribery allegation against President John Mahama. My colleagues and I actually returned the money to be given back to Mr. Agyarko, who we are were told gave the money,” he said in a Facebook post.

But speaking to Accra-based Joy FM, Mr Agyarko said it would be unthinkable for him to offer money to members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee to approve his nomination.

“First of all I feel saddened that allegation was made without the fear of equivocation...it is totally false," he said.

“I have not offered any money or gone to anybody to offer to members of Parliament to make a decision in my favour,” he added.

"I have talked to my lawyers we are listening to the tape and then they will make the decision," Mr Agyarko said.
