The reports suggest that personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were working on solving a fault on a tanker which was discharging gas close to the Total filling station on the main Takoradi Highway.
However, the tanker that was receiving the gas exploded in the process. This left all five service men injured.
The second tanker also exploded after some time. This left some road users injured including some students at a nearby school and employees of a metro mass depot.
Many of the injured have been taken to the main hospital in the city, the Effia Nkwanta Hospital. The fire has since been put out.
