A gas explosion which occurred at Takoradi in the Western Region on Tuesday (May 9, 2017) morning has reportedly left over 100 people injured.
Takoradi-based Empire FM reports that the victims have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
It is unclear what caused the explosion at the Ghonco Chinese company located on the Sekondi road.

The explosion occurred at about 7:10 am.
The reports suggest that personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were working on solving a fault on a tanker which was discharging gas close to the Total filling station on the main Takoradi Highway.
However, the tanker that was receiving the gas exploded in the process. This left all five service men injured.

The second tanker also exploded after some time. This left some road users injured including some students at a nearby school and employees of a metro mass depot.
At the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, they have received over 60 patients from the incident.
Also the GHAPOHA hospital, has more than 30 victims who have been injured due to the explosion.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service have since put out the fire.
