AFAG will not be dormant in NPP's tenure - Dr Afriyie

The Member of Parliament for Effiduasi / Asokore constituency Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie has said that the pressure group Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG) will not sleep as the NPP has assumed government.

Dr Afriyie who is also the president of AFAG said the pressure group will continue to stand for what it believes in and also keep the NPP on its toes just as it did during the tenure of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

"AFAG still stands for the principles of transparency accountability and good governance and their focus won’t change. Pursuing corrupt practices and especially interrogating the various issues, suspicions and allegations and appropriate actions been taken in the interest of the society. So AFAG remains focused and critical."

He added that they are hopeful there will be little to criticise in a Nana Addo-led government since AFAG shares similar principles with the party.

"NPP is in sync with us. We believe in similar principles that is why AFAG and NPP seem to be in sync. I think there will be a lot of times we and the NPP will merge on several other issues."

A pro-NDC Pressure group Committee for Joint Action (CJA) went dead during the governance of the NDC. Many have said that a similar thing will happen to AFAG while the CJA will come back to live.

But the NPP member of parliament disagrees and argues that AFAG has members from other political parties who are independent minded. He said the pressure group will criticise and and also praise where necessary.
