Police to reward taxi driver who knocked down armed robbers

Police have arrested a supervisor at the Cantonments branch of Koala Shopping Mall in Accra for his alleged role in a foiled robbery attempt

The Ghana Police has indicated that the taxi driver who knocked down two armed robbers who attacked and robbed a lady of an undisclosed sum of money in Accra on Saturday morning will be rewarded for his bravery.

According to the Director General of CID DCOP Prosper Abloh, the acting Inspector General of Police has directed that the taxi driver, whose identity is yet to be made public, be rewarded along with all those who helped to thwart the operation.

Briefing the media on Sunday, he said, "I have the directives of the Inspector-General of Police to announce that at an appropriate time, the taxi driver and all those who contributed to the arrest of the suspects will be handsomely rewarded."

Former President, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings also praised a soldier who intervened after the driver’s action.

"The boldness exhibited by the taxi driver was truly heroic and patriotic. At the risk of his own life he confronted these armed men, damaged his taxi in the process and ensured they did not escape the law. We should all applaud his courage. The two men deserve national recognition for their bravery," he said.

The robbers shot the sales girl on her way to deposit the previous day’s sales at the bank. While bolting, the driver rammed into the motorbike of the thieves, forcing them into a nearby drain.

Meanwhile, Police have arrested a supervisor at the Cantonments branch of Koala Shopping Mall in Accra for his alleged role in a foiled robbery attempt.

Greater Accra Region Police Public Relations Officer ASP Afia Tenge told Accra-based Joy FM, allegedly gave information to two armed robbers leading to an attack on a colleague who was on her way to deposit money at the bank.
