2 dead after Konkombas and Dagombas clashes at Agbogbloshie

The violent clash between the Konkombas and Dagombas at the Agbogbloshie market in Accra have left two people dead while several people lie wounded from machete blows.

The Yam market in Agbogbloshie, Accra has been greeted with a bloody clash between the Konkombas and Dagombas.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to Pulse.com.ghsay the joint military and police team that was deployed to the place to maintain law and order ended up fleeing due to the intensity of the clash

“They are chopping themselves with machetes some of them are also wielding guns and firing warning shots”.

Businesses operating in that particular zone have halted following the tribal tensions between the conflicting tribes.

An eyewitness named Abugri Mohammed told Pulse News that the violent clash erupted at the Agbogboloshie Yam Market over an alleged phone theft case.

He also noted that such conflicts were recurrent and had political undertones.

Several people had been injured in the clash while two people had died, he added.

In 2014, there was a similar clash between Dagombas and Nanumbas over a motorbike, GHâ‚”70, and copper wire.

Several people in the area were also injured while a number of properties were vandalised and destroyed in the process.

The police have confirmed the clash but are yet to confirm if there have been any deaths. Some other residents said tear gas was fired by the police to control the situation but to no avail.
