Asanteman mourns Asantehemaa

The Kumasi Traditional Council will today, perform one week celebration for the mother of Asanteman, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, over the death of Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem.

Nana Afia Kobi, the Asante queen, died at the age of 111. She was the biological mother of the reigning king.

Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II "has been the pillar of strength and a source of wisdom behind the transformational reign of His Majesty Otumfour Osei Tutu II."

She is the 39th Asantehemaa of the Ashanti Kingdom.

However, there will be no funeral, drumming and noise making in the Ashanti Kingdom until the funeral rites of the Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II have been performed.
