Otumfuo's mother reported dead at 109

The mother of the Ashanti King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu was reported dead during the late hours of 15th November 2016.

The Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II passed away at 109 years of age and was the biological mother of the current occupant of the Golden Stool. She was the Asantehemaa for 39 years.

Reports on what killed her currently vary but some reports suggest that she died in the her royal residence on Tuesday morning.

In accordance with the customs and traditions regarding announcement of funerals of prominent Asante royals, emissaries have dispatched to various palaces of paramount chiefs within the Kingdom to inform them about her demise.

Nana Afia Kobi was enstooled in 1977 as the 13th queenmother of the Asante Kingdom since 1695 after the late Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko II who reigned from 1945 to 1977.

She saw the reign of the late Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, as Asantehene who reigned from 1970 to 1999.
