Nursing and Midwifery Council ban 25 unaccredited institutions

The Greater Accra region recorded the highest number of unaccredited institutions whiles the Volta and Upper East regions had no unaccredited institutions.

The highest number of unaccredited health institutions is in the Greater Accra Region. These institutions include Kings College of Health and Business Studies, Mendskrom; Ripples Healthcare, Korle-Gonno; Peniel School of Allied Health, Health Management Institute, Dansoman; Golden Sunbeam International College of Science and Technology, School of Health and Allied Sciences, Dodowa;  Greenhills School of Health Sciences, near Malam market.

In the Brong-Ahafo Region the blacklisted schools are the REA College of Health, Sunyani; SAARS Academy, Bechem;  Mount Olive Health Care Institute, Techiman Municipality; Itellis Healthcare Institute, Techiman; Monreve Healthcare Institute, Dormaa Ahenkro.

The Ashanti Region recorded the third highest number of the unaccredited nursing training school. They include Newman College of Nursing, Atwima Techiman, near Kwadaso, Boakye Dankwa Memorial Healthcare Training Institute, Dikyemso-Kumasi, and Afia Kobi Nursing Training College, Moro market, Tafo Nhyiaeso.

In the Eastern Region, three of the health institutions have been operating without accreditation. Dasein Practical School of Nursing (HAC) – Akim-Oda, Ensign University College of Public Health, St Augustine’s Nursing School, Tei Nkwanta, have not been accredited.

The Central International College Of Health Studies, Ankaful Junction Cape Coast, Christian Healthcare, Asikuma, and St Andrew’s Nursing School, Assin Fosu in the Central Region have all not been accredited by the NMC.

The Northern Region and Upper West, both have one training institute each that has not been accredited.  Mon Reve Healthcare/Nursing Training School, Tamale, Mon Reve Healthcare Institute, Wa, Upper West Region.

In Western Region New Crystal Healthcare, Takoradi,  Premier Healthcare, Takoradi, are also not accredited.

The NMC however stated that there were no unaccredited schools in the Volta and Upper East Regions.

The Council cautioned potential applicants to the mentioned schools to desist from enrolling in the schools until the NMC has accredited them. The council emphasised that anyone who decides to go ahead and apply is doing so at their own risk.

Registrar of the Council Felix Nyante said “institutions currently pursuing professional accreditation by the council are advised not to advertise or admit students until they have completed the process.”.
