On 12th July, 2018, Kumasi Asante Kotoko suffered a road accident while returning from Accra following a league game against Inter Allies.
According to an eyewitness, the Kotoko team bus carrying the players and the technical team members ran into a cargo car on the new Nkawkaw road, Nantia to be precise.
The bus driver, the assistant coach of the club, Godwin Ablodey, the head coach at the time, Steve Polack and some players sustained injuries.
However, Thomas Kofi Obeng Asare, Kotoko’s Equipment Officer died after he was rushed to a near by health centre

It would be recalled that Asante Kotoko were handed their first league defeat at Inter Allies and as if that was not enough, the team suffered a another setback on their to Kumasi.
They had won their last two league games, but were shocked by Inter Allies ahead of their clash against Accra Hearts of Oak
Asante kotoko faithful have performed various rites in Kumasi to remember the tragedy their idol club experienced exactly a year today.
The PR of the, Obed Acheampong Porcupine Warriors has vowed the club will never again travel in the night for a game or after a match.
