The South African Division One club confirmed the appointment of the 51-year-old in a statement released on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Konadu had served as the manager of Ghana Premier League side Nsoatreman FC, having joined the club just a year ago.
The former Asante Kotoko boss, however, led the club to the FA Cup title last season after they defeated rivals Bofoakwa Tano on penalties in the final.
Maxwell Konadu swaps Nsoatreman for Black Leopards
He has now decided to move abroad for the first time in his managerial career and will be aiming to secure promotion with Black Leopards, who finished 10th in South Africa’s Division One League last season.
“Black Leopards Football Club has appointed Ghanaian Maxwell Konadu as a head coach for the coming season. Konadu who has penned a three-year deal with 'Lidoda Duvha' holds CAF Coaching License A and a wealth of experience as he has previously coached teams like 24 times Ghana Premier League Champions Asante Kotoko SC,” a statement from the club said.
It added: “He will be assisted by Solly Luvhengo, Tendai Tanyanyiwa as the Goalkeeper Coach and Majaha Ndhlovu as the Physical Trainer.”
Meanwhile, Black Leopards chairman Tshifhiwa Thidiela believes the Ghanaian coach is the best man to lead the club back to the South African topflight.
"With the Motsepe Championship, there is only one thing to play for, which is promotion and to achieve that we need to leave no stone unturned and to do that we need to have the best people in charge. We are very happy with Maxwell and we are confident that he can take us to the promised land,” he said.
Konadu, who previously served as the assistant coach of Ghana’s national team, won the Ghana Premier League and President’s Cup with Kotoko.
