The Ghana Navy has begun a rescue operation to save over 100 passengers on a sinking ferry on the Volta Lake.
The ferry, which was on its way to Yeji began sinking an hour into the journey, as the load on the ferry appeared too heavy, Accra-based Joy FM has reported.
The ferry was carrying about four loaded cargo trucks aside other passengers mainly market women.
An eyewitness told Accra-based Joy FM that several of the passengers are currently fighting for their lives, as many are desperately pumping water out of the ferry to keep it afloat.
Two boats have so far reportedly gone to rescue the passengers with many more expected to arrive.
No death had been recorded as at the time of filing this report.
