27,890 Nigerians graduated from India, 4,940 still studying — High Commissioner

Nearly 28,000 Nigerians have graduated from Indian institutions while a further 4,940 are presently studying in the Asian country.

The Indian High Commissioner in Nigeria, Amb. Ajjampur Ghanashyam, said this on Sunday while speaking on a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum.

According to Ghanashyam, this high number is an indication of the good diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

He said this relationship dates back to the pre-colonial era and urged that the tied be maintained so that both countries can share experiences that will be mutually beneficial.

Noting the high population of Nigeria and India, the High Commissioner indicated his country's readiness to help boost Nigeria's economy by sharing its experiences with Nigeria in the agricultural and industrial sectors.

The envoy also said the alleged harassment of Nigerians resident in India is made worse by the media because the Indian people have no problems with law-abiding Nigerians in their country.

He urged the media to highlight the positive things Nigerians are doing in India.
