Reports have revealed that the Porsche 919 Hybrid has ended Audi’s five-year winning streak at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Sources say the number-19 Porsche 919 Hybrid gave the German automaker a record 17th victory at Le Mans, just one year after returning to the sport. The last time Porsche claimed victory at Le Mans was in 1998.
According to sources, German Formula One driver Nico Hulkenberg crossed the finish line first at the 24-hour endurance race with the number-17 Porsche piloted by Mark Webber coming right behind in second. The Audi R18 e-tron quattro came in third, unable to overcome the reliability and power of the Porsche 919 Hybrid.
Although the lead alternated back and forth between Audi and Porsche throughout the race, the Audi race cars were held back due to reliability issues, leading to a number of unscheduled pit stops. The number-7 Audi race car finished two laps behind the lead Porsche and a lap behind the second-place Porsche 919 Hybrid.
