This Basketball Player Wound Up 'Pregnant' After Trying to Scam a Drug Test

Back in 2018, American basketball player DJ Cooper's urine sample showed that he was pregnant when he was taking a test to potentially join the Bosnian national team. This meant, of course, that he was using someone's urine other than his own. He was suspended by FIBA and will continue to be suspended until June 2020.

You probably haven't heard of a professional basketball player by the name of DJ Cooperthat's OK. His only NBA experience was a brief moment in Summer 2016 as a member of the Washington Wizards' summer team. Before that, he played for four years at Ohio University, and after that he played in Europe for years for teams in Greece and Monte Carlo.

His latest piece of news might make his name a bit more memorable, though, and probably not for the reason he wanted: he's been suspended until mid-2020 after a drug test revealed that he was pregnant, per Eurohoops .

......Well, not quite. He did turn in his drug test, and the results did show hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), a hormone produced by women in/from the placenta during pregnancy.

What happened, clearly, was that Cooper attempted to pass off his girlfriend's urine as his own ; the ploy clearly backfired. It's unclear if he already knew she was pregnant or not already. Upon receiving the results, FIBA (The International Basketball Federation) immediately suspended Cooper for two years; his suspension will be lifted on June 20, 2020.
