Ice cream is a growing dessert of choice among many Ghanaians, young and old, due to the influence of European cuisine and lifestyle in the country.

Ice cream gelateria and parlors have sprung all over the country offering a range of the frozen sweet. Ice cream is usually sold as gelato, hard-packed and sometimes soft served.

Frankie’s

Frankie’s is synonymous with ice cream and every Ghanaian knows this fact that well. Despite having expanded to include a hotel and a restaurant, their ice cream is still popular. Their Patio, Pistachio, bubble gum and vanilla flavored ice-cream are still highly sought after all these years on the menu. You should probably stay away from the fruit flavored ones as they don’t taste like they look.

Arlechinno’s (Arly’s)

Arlechino is an Italian gelato based in the heart of Osu close to Papaye on the Oxford Street. Treat yourself to their yoghurt, Stracciatella, Cookies and cream or the ice cream cones. You might get addicted if care is not taken. Arly’s is usually crowded and so service is not exactly at its best.

The Cupcake Boutique is located in Labone and it is a shop that sells cakes and cupcakes, as its name suggests. However, the Cupcake Boutique serves a wide selection of ice cream and smoothies you would love.

Yah

Yah is a multi-cuisine gelateria with different desserts, shakes, salads and smoothies. It has branches across the country namely; Tema, Accra and Kumasi. Staff are very friendly but service may delay during peak season. And you may want to try their millet smoothie also known as Fula. It is magical.

Pinnochio Ghana

Ghana-based Italian restaurant, Pinnochio has moved from an ice cream shop to a full-fledged restaurant. They have an outlet in the bustling Osu neigbourhood in Accra and a new one in East Legon. Try their cheese cake, white chocolate and their pizza at 33 Ghana cedis.

Delish Restaurant

Located on the Okponglo- Bawaleshie Road, a minute’s drive from the University of Ghana’s southern gate, the Delish restaurant has an exciting range of desserts you can purchase after having a great meal. Ice cream and trifle are also available.
