Most people think beans is the ‘poor man’s meat’. However, the popular legume is a great source of essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.

Beans are the right food to eat if you want to gain or lose weight. The high-protein content makes red beans more satiating, meaning you’re more likely to feel fuller longer after eating them.

Method
1. Ideally, all unwanted particles in the beans must be removed, washed and soaked overnight to reduce the cooking time.
2. Boil beans in a large saucepan with enough water.
3. Add rice, salt, stir and cover to cook.
4. After 10 - 15 minutes, add more water if the waakye isn’t well cooked.

5. Stir and add water to the mixture depending on how soft you want it and cover to cook.
6. Serve waakye with shito, gari and fried fish or chicken.
