Although it is the Bank of Ghana and the Securities and Exchange Commission that have embarked on the financial sector clean-up which resulted in the collapse of certain banks and financial institutions in Ghana, some people think the bug stops with the president.
The latest to have questioned how the clean-up has been carried out is Vitus Azeem, former Executive director of Ghana Integrity Initiative and now a director at BSF consult, Ghana.
According to him, the state, in its attempt to safeguard the interest of customers of the collapsed banks and financial institutions has ended up impoverishing them unnecessarily.
Writing on his Facebook page, Vitus Azeem said the financial sector clean-up has been counterproductive and a sharp breach of the government’s promises to Ghanaians, which he thinks president Akufo Addo must be held accountable for.
