Brutalised man’s father begs IGP to lift interdiction on errant police officers, saying "there are no jobs"

Ghanaians seem to be crying more than the bereaved as the father of the 28-year-old man seen in a viral video being brutalised by some police officers in Koforidua has been begging the Inspector General of Police to let the officers off the hook.

The acting IGP had interdicted General Sergeant Patrick Amoako and General Lance Corporal Isaac Marfo after the widely condemned video showed them assaulting one Dodzi Alegbe for allegedly stealing GH¢1,600.00 from his employer.

While in handcuffs, the errant police officers could be seen whipping the bare-bodied suspect with ropes believed to belt sporadically as he cries defencelessly.

Meanwhile, speaking on Accra-based Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem on Wednesday, father of the victim who said his son might have suffered internal bleeding urged acting IGP James Oppong-Boanuh to let his men go scot-free.

According to Daniel Alegbe, it is hard to find jobs in Ghana, so depriving the errant police officers their source of livelihood would be unwise.

“I’m happy the police officers have been interdicted but I will plead with the IGP to recall them because there are no jobs,” he is quoted as saying.

He assured that once his son is still alive, he will continue to take him to the hospital to ensure he recovers from the brutality meted out to him.

“My son is still complaining of body pains and I will send him back to the hospital for a check-up; I suspect he may have suffered internal bleeding,” Mr Alegbe added.
