20th Century Fox cancels sequel

According to several reports, a sequel to Marvel's "Fantastic Four," which was scheduled for a 2017 release, has been cancelled.

20th Century Fox has cancelled the undefinedsequel from their release calendar, after the 2015 superhero reboot opened below expectations in August.

The cancelled sequel was expected to debut in theaters on June 2, 2017, a week after "Star Wars : Episode VIII."

The "Fantastic Four" reboot which was expected to have a $30-$40 million box office opening, opened with an estimated $26.2 million.

'The reboot which reportedly cost  at least $120 million to produce, is currently the lowest US opening for a Marvel-related movie since the 2012 'Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance.'

"Fantastic Four" stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Reg E. Cathey and Tim Blake Nelson.
