The Electoral Commission (EC) has said it will now hold the Abetifi Constituency by-election in the Eastern Region on July 16, 2016, instead of the earlier July 19 date.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Peter Wiafe Pepera, on May 21 this year.

The EC assured that “All contesting parties have been given due notice of the change, and the commission has put adequate measures in place to ensure a smooth electoral exercise.”

An industrial consultant by profession, Mr. Pepera, 62, was the Managing Director of Paramount Distilleries.

He was a member of the Committee of Privileges, House Committee as well as the Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee of Parliament.
