Watch Andre Ayew's brace against Tottenham

This is how Andre Ayew inspired West Ham to stage a sensational comeback against Tottenham

Andre Ayew was the saviour of West Ham as his two goals helped them stage a come back against London neighbour Tottenham.

Striker Andre Ayew netted twice from close range and Angelo Ogbonna nodded in the third from a corner to complete a stunning turnaround

West Ham’s first 45 minutes had been truly shameful, lacking in any kind of purpose or tangible commitment. Bilic’s players had shown the very worst of themselves and were fortunate to be only two goals down after a half in which they had played almost no part.

But the game changed nonetheless and when it did it was largely attributable to a single moment. This, sometimes, is just how sport works.

West Ham had been slightly better for the first ten minutes or so of the second half. They had spent a bit of time with the ball and some time in the Tottenham half of the field. Sissoko gave the Spurs the opener in the 6th minute, before Dele Alli doubled the score line.

goalkeeper Michael Vorm held on to Edimilson Fernandes’ low drive after a corner was cleared to the edge of the penalty area in the 55th minute the great likelihood is that this game would have meandered to a conclusion that looked likely from the moment Moussa Sissoko gave Tottenham the lead in the sixth minute.

But the shot was firmly struck and Vorm did not hold on to it as he may expected to. Instead, he parried it firmly in to the path of West Ham’s Andre Ayew and when the Ghana international passed it back in to the net from a few yards the game was reset on to a course from which it then refused to deviate.

It was the Belgian who was beaten in the air by Andy Carroll in the 61st minute and then him who couldn’t react quickly enough as Ayew eased in to position to capitalise on Manuel Lanzini’s subsequent cut back.
