On the day Major Maxwell Adams Mahama is being laid to rest in Accra, the residents of Denkyira-Obuasi are also mourning the lynched soldier in their town.
The residents have gathered at the venue where the youth of the area lynched and burnt the body of Major Mahama.
Most the residents there are clad in red and black with sorrowful faces. Most of those present are children and aged in the community.
The residents are also pleading with the family of the late soldier to forgive them for the atrocity they committed.
“They should forgive us for the heinous crime our people committed, we are sorry,” a leader of the community pleads as he addresses the gathering.
He said that such a crime will never occur again in the village.

The Denkyira Traditional Council earlier performed rituals to purify the community and placate the gods following the lynching of the soldier.
The purification rights were meant to ward off any curse the soldier’s death might bring to the area.
Captain Mahama was lynched by residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central region on Monday, May 29, and he will be laid to rest this Friday, June 9, 2017.

The Police has arrested 42 suspects in connection with the incident.
Police have so far arrested a total of 42 persons in connection with the murder of the soldier, Captain Maxwell Mahama.
The burial service is being held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.
He will be buried at the Osu Military Cemetery, Accra.
