Kwesi Appiah explains why Gyan didn't hand captain's arms band to Ayew

Kwesi Appiah has explained the reason why a new captain’s arms band was handed to Andre Ayew instead of the one Asamoah Gyan had put on.

Ghana walloped Ethiopia 5-0 in the opening 2019 Africa Nations Cup (AFCON) on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Asamoah Gyan the skipper of the team scored the match opener to hit a milestone of 50 goals on the evening and the captain’s arms band was customized to celebrate him.

The 31-year-old was substituted from the game and instead of a direct handing over of arms band to Andre Ayew, a new band was given to Andre Ayew.

This has intensified the perception that there is a bad blood between the skipper and his deputy over the Black Stars captaincy.

Kwesi Appiah, the coach of the team has explained what accounted for a new arms band for Andre when Gyan was substituted.
