The Director of Public Relations of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent CephasArthur has rubbished claims that the police run away from demonstrators at Accra slum Sodom and Gomorrah because they were overwhelmed by the intensity of the protestors.
According to him, as security men and women who have sworn an oath to protect the nation, they stood their grounds and brought the volatile situation under control
The slum dwellers at Old Fadama were on rampage on Monday after city authorities demolished their structures popularly known as Sodom and Gomorrah in Accra.
The irate protestors destroyed three police vehicles and a motorbike and managed to besiege the State House and went ahead to vandalise parts of the building and some parked vehicles.
Cephas Arthur on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Monday, denied those allegations, saying “I didn’t run for my life as it has been purported".
“All we did was to withdraw and allow other personnel to take over” he stated.
Though he expressed grave disappointment at the development, he assured that his outfit will do all it can to prevent a recurrence.
