A Naval officer and the wife of a military officer died in Takoradi in the Western region after drinking Mahogany bitters, a locally manufactured drink.

According to media reports, the Naval officer went to a popular pub in his area at Takoradi to drink the bitters in order to gain some appetite for evening meal.

The officer after taking the drink collapsed and rushed to the hospital.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

According reports, the wife of a military officer also passed on under similar situation.

The Police in Takoradi have taken samples of the drink for testing whiles the owner of the popular pub have also been arrested to aid in investigation.
